Tam O'Shanters
« on May 06, 2011, 08:05:32 pm by Nudga »
I've been on the blower today with a Scottish hat making company regarding the tam o'shanters. They are going to work out a price and get back to me early next week. They are also very keen to help us out with this as they can see quite a bit of publicity for themselves and DRFC.

All i'd like to know from you guys at this stage is,

Is this idea something you'd like to see at the KMS.

Would you wear one at EVERY game.

What colour would you favour (the original was Royal blue with a red pom thing on top, or would you prefer red/white)

How much would you be prepared to pay for one.

Do you hate the idea.

And finally, would you feel a prized pillock in one.

Once I get the prices back I will get in touch with the VSC directors and run it by them first. I was thinking of adding just a pound or so on top of each hat with the profits going into the VSC coffers.

So, waddaya think?

I'm for it regardless of colour, looking a twonk or just feeling plain stoopid! If it's something we can do that's an original - let's go for it!
Over to you Mr. Nudga!

(Finally got re-registered!)

During our first in the championship my Dad got carried away with the Tam O'Shanter idea. So much so, we made him one.

Its not perfect, but it does a job!

That is bang on mate, although I doubt we would have anything like that quality because of the cost's involved.

I'll have one Nudga, I make looking a pillock an art form so anything to enhance the look is fine by me

That looks excellent.  If they are going to be like this put me down for several.  I have loads of ethnic (jock) relatives and I would gladly present them with one of these.

On a similar theme, a Barnsley [strike]friend[/strike] associate of mine has a woven (and framed) Barnsley badge on his wall at home.  I wouldn't tell him but it looks mint and I wondered if anyone new a place that could do the same?

What's with the Scottish connection? Isn't there some English hat/headwear garment that you could utilise instead of another countries hand-me-downs?

I will also invest in one, as a 'history buff' I can tell you the English Border Rievers (15th through to 17th century) also used to wear them up in the border region but their's were creamy/white and had the flag of St George sown on.
The Jock Border rievers wore blue ones with the Flag of St Andrew sown on.

I just personally think it's a garment that a Scottish clubs fans would wear, not an English, Yorkshire club who come from a region where we have a Viking as a crest and a large history of regiments who've fought against the beloved Scotts for hundreds of years.

In which case we would HAVE to have them in Rovers colours, with symbol.

Nope, you missed nothing - 1) I had no idea about that. 2) I still maintain that it's a Scottish hat. 3) It's like wearing a kilt.

It's nothing like wearing a kilt, your two cream crackers and your dairy slice won't be on show when the wind blows. I know the hat is a Scottish thing and I don't know what the connection is with The Rovers, but it is a part of our distant history that could be brought back onto the stands for a bit of fun.
It could even set us apart from every other club in the country and give us a bit of tribal brotherhood that has been so badly missing in recent years.

It may not even take off but there is no harm in trying something new and different, unless you're one these that don't like change.

I'd go for a cap with a couple of wings on the side like the Viking on our badge has.

The one in the picture is not a Tam o Shanter, this is http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=tam+o+shanter&view=detail&id=61AC5DC54221E189E482D528F355D8CC49777C70&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR

Under the main picture is the possible Rovers one with
the red bobble, all it needs is the badge on it.

In the picture it is a Glengarry.

The hat makers got back to me yesterday and quoted £9.60 if we ordered 700. I think that's a bit steep so will keep looking.

I think I'd be in for an original colours variant if this gets going properly. Whether I'd have the guts to wear it though... ;)
