I think McCann had a better squad to start with in every way...

GK - Moore has Lawlor & Jones, McCann also had Marosi
DF - The full backs have swapped (Halliday & James may get turn out to be an upgrade on Mason & Andrew but right now it’s too early to tell), but McCann also had Buttler as well as Wright & Anderson
MF - the players we have when Moore took over were all here for McCann, as was Tommy Rowe
FW - no difference (I suppose Mandeville was still here but given he had no impact under McCann I wouldn’t say the squad is any weaker without him)

Moore has a smaller starting pool of players, in terms of number and quality. I’m disappointed in his decision to delay pursuing players (especially given we were told we have a number of quality players willing to sign as soon as we have a manager in place - what will now happen to them if they are told to hang on further?!) but we’ve got to keep the faith that Moore knows what he’s doing and will have assembled those 5/6 signings that we need to compete at the top end again by August.

Also extra to what GM started with, DM has Ali Crawford and Kieran Sadlier, both good League 1 players. Sadlier in particular could progress to a higher level.

At the end of last season plenty of our posters were saying that after a summer break and a good pre season, Saddlier could be a good second striker for us and possibly a big player in the coming season.
I count myself among them.

Somehow though plenty of the same posters (not me) are forgetting about him when going on about us needing a back up striker to play alongside JM.

Fair point BRR, I’d forgotten that Sadlier joined mid season so our forward options are definitely better now.

I wouldn’t count Crawford as he was all but signed when McCann arrived (meaning there was limited effort in terms of finding the player, negotiation etc to do), so for me the other 3 areas of the squad are still weaker on Moore’s arrival (hopefully only temporarily!)

DFP reporting there's a meeting today between DM & GB to discuss moving things forward with the appointment of an assistant and whether  to move on the signings lined up, including Middleton, and whether to pursue other targets.

I would expect the club will sign more players..  we do tend to do this kind of business out of the public eye mostly - and rightly so - therefore that this detail is in the DFP online, implies that moves may very well be afoot..

You'd think it's a no brainer really.  We need a centre half, central midfielder (Rowe replacement) and at least two forwards IMO.  I'd also like to think we can get one or two of the promising youngsters involved.

For me we need a centre half, a utility defender who can cover either full back position. A central midfielder, at least 1 forward and a striker. When marquis goes we will then need another striker to replace him too. That would give us a 19/20 man squad.

Matty Blair covers full back as we know plus Ben Sheaf can also cover centre half. Then we have the youth coming through.

I do however think we will need another strong/experienced centre half.

I also hope the two transfer listed players stay transfer listed. If they can go on loans or permanent the better.

It seems progress is being made - DFP website reporting an assistant manager has been identified and approached..

Can’t do a link, sorry.

Probably meant Downing.?

Richard Dawson was a good player I remember but that was in 1981-83 ish.!

Dickie Dawson. Them were the days. 1981/82. Top scorer. With 8 in all competitions...

Graeme Jones is in work! Doubt he'll be leaving Luton for us, and in any case it seems many Baggies fans blame him for shortcomings in their style of play under DM.
