Leaving for better things ?
« on January 09, 2013, 10:11:05 am by Rosso Exile Deux »
On the basis that Wolves is (currently) a step up made me wonder who, before Deano, was last Rovers manager to go ‘onwards and upwards’ - from memory most have resigned (mutual consent?) with nowhere to go or been sacked........did Billy go to Leeds first time around ?

I think McMenemy went to Southampton and the England job after getting the chop at Rovers ... but chronology of it very foggy in my mind .

There are not too many Rovers managers who have gone on to be relatively successful. Richard Ray (1876-1952), our first manager when we returned to the Football league after World War One, went on to manage Leeds United for eight seasons. Oscar Hold (1918-2005), the manager in charge when I became a fan in 1963, went on to a successful career in Turkish football.

Before he tragically died in the Torino FC air disaster, Les Lievesley played for the Rovers and then went onto coach in Italy.
So in terms of coaching/management, he went onto better things, but unfortunately it ended in tragedy.

That Torino team were something special too.....
