In 24 starts Cotterill has 10 goals and 9 assists.

Formidable.

Seem to remember Fred Robinson and Stephen "chest infection" Reed could also blister a few in their time!

Given we have only scored 39 that shows how important he is to the team.

What about Yogi Broadbent?

Before my time, but a guy I used to work with, now sadly passed away, said when he was a kid he used to lie on the roof of the dugouts at OBV and watch the players train.  After the training session ended Broadbent would stay out n the centre circle with a couple of balls and hammer one into the left dugout, then as it came back to him he'd hit it first time into the right dug out, and this would carry on until he had used all the balls he had.

Been lucky to see a number of technically brilliant players in my time.

In terms of delivery, Cotterill has to be up there, we've never been more dangerous from dead ball situations.

James Coppinger probably has the best first touch and close control I've ever seen from a Rovers player (if you could add Cotterill's composure and delivery to Copps' natural flair you'd be well into 8 figures).

That Colin Cramb goal brings back memories of one of the most gifted strikers I've ever seen at Rovers. He was different to the other top contenders. He didn't have the workrate of Blundell, the presence of Barnes, the movement of Heffernan or the instinct of Sharp but Cramby was just special. He made defenders and goalkeepers look like mugs, he scored all sorts of goals and he constantly had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Perhaps my first true footballing hero.

In terms of allround technical ability, although he wasn't actually ours, Danny Williamson was right up there. Pure class. Would have been £60,000 well spent if we'd made his loan move permanent!

Here's my overall two pennorth from 40 years of watching

Pure power of shot: tie between Glynn Snod & Alan Little
Ball control & instinctive dribbling: Coppinger
Quality of passing: Ian Snod
Pure, God-like, if fleeting, Genius: Tommy Gaynor
Clinical precision and accuracy of shooting: Cotterill
Correctness of decision making: Michael McIndoe
Quick-wittedness and footedness of striker: Chris Brown (03/04 variant)
Intimidatory tackler: Alan Little
And the special "Mester" award for the player in whose hands you'd be most likely to put your life when the battling started: Alan Warboys

I think you got just about every one of those I'd put in such a list there Billy. I wouldn't mind adding either Stevie Lister or Brian Stock for grace and elegance though.

Surely Mike Jeffrey has got to be in this list somewhere. He was cool as a cucumber in the eighteen yard box. Glad someone noted Kieran Brady, he was on another level.
For tackling i'd have to say Brabs or Kevin Hulme, a tackle from one of these angry bas**rds and you'd need home care for six months.

Good list that. I'd have said Kitchen as a predator/finisher but that's just an opinion.

Brabin and Laidlaw have got to be in there somewhere even if it's just the biggest pie-eater award.

Brilliant list Billy

Possibly just before your time, but I would add Peter Kitchen to that of Chris Brown (03-4) for quick wittedness and footedness.

If allowed to go back further I would consider adding Alick for 4 or 5 of the categories without displacing any of your choices.

I was old enough to see Kitch. The first match I have any real memory of was the replay against Liverpool in the Cup in Jan 74 in the middle of the 3 day week. I don't really remember the detail of Kitch's play - too young to take it in. He was just a God for me and I cried the day he went to Orient.

Bob. Agreed on the grace thing.

And it's between Mark Miller and Richard Dawson for the Most Unfeasibly Enormous Thighs For A  Footballer title.

Even bigger thighs than Jonny Muir?

Relative to the rest of their size, yep.
