Keepmoat update!
« on January 09, 2013, 07:57:07 pm by silent majority »
    Just a few brief points here, although most of it was discussed at the Fans Forum;

    • The back up plan and strategy has been in place for some time, once it was realised Dean was going they just pushed the button
    • Virtually within minutes of Dean going the applications flooded in
    • Its unusual of course having to replace your Manager when your top of the league, it normally happens when your at the bottom
    • The key is to operate with a seamless transition and using experience in the team/club is part of that
  • There will be no rush, a short list this week and interviews next
    • The club were very pleased with the Fans Forum and how the supporters listened carefully to what was explained
    • Normal life carries on at the club, at the moment the preparations for the England U19 game are taking place
  • Don't forget it could be a club record this weekend and Copps will be celebrating his 300th game!!

I was very pleased and grateful as an overseas exile to have the full Fans' forum run on Rovers Player . The whole evening was most impressive and the openness of the owners and the Chief Executive was amazing . I  also congratulate  the other speakers for all the interesting information given in such a complete and structured way .

I'm glad the club keeps fans updated as much as possible and also glad we're keeping shortlists etc completely to ourselves.

I Believe plan B was already in place incase Deano's appointment didn't workout.

But what, exactly, is Plan B?

It could be as little as saying 'We will see who's available and pick the one we like'

It could be 'We have our eye on Mr XXX and we will approach him'

Or it could be 'We have a clear documented plan which names the interim management team, sets out the criteria by which we will assess applicants, the personal qualities and experience we expect to see in any successful candidate and these are a few people we have in mind'

What puzzles me, greatly, is the initial rush to appoint 'within a week' and the current shortlist one week and interview the next. It don't sound very planned to me tbh.

I think Nobby's point is why we had a plan B in place and ready to go if/when Dean decided to leave.

If you know anything at all about how Gavin operates, know this - he considers lots of outcomes and this is a sign of the forward planning we now have in place.  It never hurts to have contingencies ready to roll in the event of a game changer.

I'm not arguing about that Rob. What's puzzling me is the discrepancy between the first public utterances and the reality we have now. It just doesn't come across as being in accordance with any plan at all. And for all the hype about  'Plan B' it could, worst case, be as little as my first suggestion above. I'm not saying it is, but that's an easy escape route if necessary

Is it true that there will be no money to spend on transfers for the new manager?

Yes. That's possible. It may be true. Against it I'd suggest that any Chief Exec and Chairman who believed a club in the top half dozen of League 1 with a good reputation and a remarkable ability to stick with its manager through thick and thin, would get only a few applicants would be in Cloud Cuckoo Land though.

You know, I know and every one else knows that a job at DRFC is one of the better lower league posts. So, having thought about it, although it is possible. I don't believe it.

Lol

I think our posts crossed, Bob, so I didnt see yours before posting mine.

There is no discrepancy.  The first public utterances were all about wishing dean well, etc, and simply said we had a plan B - an alternative plan - which was always going to be Rob Jones and Brian Flynn to take over as caretakers.  The intention was always to get the right man in, and the club recognises that this isnt a snap, 2-minute decision.

Deano was in a bit sharpish   :)

But I do think now is totally different we have got to get this right

RTR - what was Brian Flynn's role while DS was manager? Who brought him in? Was there any suggestion / or chance that Brian might follow DS?

Could it be there was no surprise as Mckay and the owners saw this coming due to the agent masterminding the deal?

Genuine question and as you know I like Mckay's involvement last year one of the few....

The comments from OP sound to me we saw this coming when most fans inc me didnt....

Ah, of course. Now you've written the same non-sequitur vertically, I know exactly what you mean.
