Kettle help
« on June 08, 2020, 06:25:28 pm by NickDRFC »
Very unusual request but I reckon this board is full of men who are much handier than me...I’ve managed to melt part of the casing around the wire of my electric kettle on the stove. You can’t see the wiring so it’s not completely burnt through but it looks a bit of a mess and I’m concerned it’s not safe to use. Anyone know whether I can still use it and whether I can repair the tubing quite easily? I’d have thought there might be some sort of DIY kit out there I could use.

PS sorry to disappoint anyone who thought this thread was about our favourite referee.

How much of the cable is “good” between the damage and the kettle itself.?

If there is enough cable left, you can cut it off good side, and fit a new plug.  Make sure you use the same fuse type of you do.

I’m not sure on the rules about this these days - if the existing cable has a moulded in plug, I don’t know if you’re supposed to change it..

However if you have any doubts, get a new kettle.!
