Does anybody remember the name of the bloke who used to read the teams out before Ken Avis?
He obviously read the teams out 1-11 & it always amused my dad and I when he used to say "Rovers No 7 is Pugg (Daral Pugh). Dad and I always thought this was hilarious & whenever we'd refer to Daral Pugh we'd call him Pugg out of amusement of what we heard when I was a kid

A memory i have is when he shouted hand ball over the P.A during a game.
Another time was when we beat Hull 1 nil, just as the Hull fans were leaving the ground up pipes the P.A. And todays late result Doncaster Rovers 1 Hull City 0.
The jeers coming from the Rosso End was funny to say the least.

My funny memories were of the various comedy pronunciations of Pierre Van Hooijdonk

One of my favourite Ken Avis moments was when he had just made an announcement over the tannoy about foul and abusive language not being tolerated but left the mic on and although he was probably sitting in front of the PA box a couple of minutes later could quite clearly be heard saying something along the lines of "Oh come on, that's f**king offside, linesman".

can bill smith please report to club office it's a emergency
Makes me wonder if bill smith ever saw the full 90mins of a game

I remember in the 60s announcing that someone's wife had gone into labour and could they go home.
Twenty minutes or so later it was repeated. We were laughing and wondering if it was such a good game or was the game an alibi for the pub or another woman.

Ken Avis, eh. Legend
And I still have no idea what a "sterile area" is where people always left their cars.
