Richie wellens , free transfer sold for £1.2mil

Matt Mills paid £250k and sold for £2.25 mil

Ben Whiteman paid approx £125k sold for £1.67 mil

Billy Sharp paid £1.3mil sold for £2.25mil

John Marquis free transfer sold for £1.7mil

I'm sure there's a few more.

It's a decent model for a club of our size.

Most of those were so long ago. Need to be selling 1 a season at for 1m plus to see us trying for playoffs in L1.

Not many of our current crop will ever be worth close to that other than maybe Hurst

All those figures are incorrect. But the point you are making stands Nudga.

So in order as above.

Wellens. Free.  Sold do not think we got a million for him. To be honest not sure what fee was involved.

Mills. Think we paid £300.00 sold for around 2.5 million. ( not sure exact fee )

Whiteman. Paid £150.00. Sold for 1.5 million possible add ons which might take it up to 1.75 million.

Sharp. Paid £1.1 million.  Sold for 2 million

Marquis. Free.   Sold 1.5 million

All above figures were what were reported at the time.
Sorry to be pedantic.

But all were good business financially but we lost some very good players of course.

So why are we L2 for the foreseeable future?
Managerial appointments and recruitment has been shocking

Yes the board have made mistakes.
1) They didn’t know McCann was going to leave us in the mire.
2) They didn’t know Moore was going to wreck the squad
3) Yes dropped a major clanger appointing Butler with a squad full of loanees who didn’t give S..T
4) Didn’t know Wellens was going to spend the budget on predominately dross and could not create dressing room harmony.
5) Took a punt on GM and it didn’t work out. Mistake. They happen.

That’s why we are in League 2.

Foreseeable future?  Well probably 2 seasons. Any more we don’t know do we. Give DS time.
He needs this summer.

I’m not sure wellens did spend it on dross, he signed 3 players I think it was, then had to get youth players on loan to get any new players in, the sustainable model will only work if you start off with a decent squad, I thank the owner for all the money he has put into the club, just think if he could have extended his kindness a little more we would not be in this position now

He needs this summer.

Next season will be worse than this can’t see us signing better than what we’ve got.
1 McCann left because he wanted better players he gave the club a list and we couldn’t sign any of them so when Hull came calling he went.
2 The only way DM could get any near quality was to get good loan players Marquis going and then didn’t have the money to replace him. We were in the top three them Whiteman left and yet again couldn’t and never have replaced him.
Sheff Weds came he went and this year he’s showing what a good manager he is.
3 Butler you are right
4 if Wellens spent all the budget on 4/5 players in a rebuild season then it can’t have been the right budget to rebuild and money has to be signed off by the Chairman so it wasn’t all his doing but easy to blame.
5 took a punt on GM that wasn’t working and he signed dross last January and we got relegated.

This summer we will be searching to replace 12 players who will go around having finished mid table or worst this season and our record over the last 18 months is hardly proactive.

Don’t think they are reliable.

Sorry but ravenrover posted “where did you get those figures from”  and they did look a bit iffy.  It’s not important.   :)

Bit more than 3.

Ben Close - current 1st teamer
Kyle Knoyle - was our best player this season
Tommy Rowe - class (played in wrong positions)
Ro-Shaun Williams - 1st team
Jordy Hiwula - clown
Aidan Barlow - signed as a cheap squad player, is now a sub.
Dan Gardner- cheap and decent enough (arguably better than what we have now if fit) - for this league
Joe Dodoo - clown 2
Joseph Olowu - afterthought cheap and classy signing
