Something positive - those 3 young centre halves
« on April 10, 2023, 08:25:01 pm by Branton Red »
Thought the 3 of them all played very well today

They played even better on Friday against a physical, direct team with experienced, strong centre forwards.

Bobby's great, isn't he? Just loves throwing his head at the ball. Didn't win too many today but he was bang up for the challenge.

Agreed. Not asked to do anything silly, just defend.

Mid field went missing the second half when it got more physical, especially Close, Brown and Molineux put a shift in but eventually those players couldn't stem the tide. It's a recurring problem the players at the back have done ok most games and have been let down by keeper mistakes and a poor midfield with the ball constantly coming back at them.
With Bobby 18 yrs old  Nelson 19 yrs old and I think Long 20 yrs old they did well, and Flint 17 yrs old is snapping at their heels and can play midfield, he could well be the answer to our prayers and solve our defensive mid fielder position, but would require some faith by the managers and coaches, I am not sure about that.

I liked Bobby giving Mitchell a high five after a save. No one else went to him.

Agreed, just hard to defend a set piece when your keeper's on the floor 5 yards in front of you.

Now Williams isn fit, if Anderson starts training again will Schofield stick to the yoiung guns, or sacrifice one possibly two of them, and which one or two? What would you do?
I see the cover at striker as the problem area with both Goodman and Agard unlikely to complete a full game even if not injured because of lack of game time at first team level and would have Anderson on the bench if one or both got injured as he is really the only one at the club a recognised central striker who could step up IMHO and has the ability to go past defenders being quick and runs the channels, a big lad as well.

Have we got two Andersons at the club?

We have Tom Anderson and a young 17 year old striker Max Anderson who is promising, and with Goodman could have a good future in the game.
We have no cover for Agard except the two young lads who are out and out strikers, hopefully Agard can take some part in the game although risky if he has stitches in his leg as reported.
The only other alternative is probably Hurst or Molineux up there but if Agard is out Goodman should be a starter with Anderson as a back up on the bench and could come on if Goodman finds the pace hard.
Both have done well, and it looks an emergency so give them the nod, they will only get better are both big lads, Anderson reminds me of Alan Clark ex Leeds the way he plays and has pace and like Goodman is not afraid of a challenge.
Ideally we could do with some experience but when needs must we have some promising youngsters to turn to.
One advantage they both had is at u18s level they have both played as the lone striker so are used to the system and can integrate and hold the ball up, and impressively are goal scorers at that level.

Let's hope that if the three youngsters play again today they play well again and get more help from the midfield rather than be on the back foot most of the game.
