45 is much too young.

Very sad.

He had a following at Rovers amongst those who appreciated the effort he always put in.

Wow - I remember him playing for Donny. He was a 100% effort player as I recall. That’s very sad. RIP.

He was my favourite player as a kid. Proper battling number 9. No age at all, RIP.

Christ that's a shock. Condolences to his family.

He might not have been the silkiest of players but he always put a shift in. And his scoring record was better than you might recall.

Sad news.

As many have already said - he was never ‘gods gift’ but he always gave everything for the shirt and the badge.

That's very sad indeed. I really liked him, always tried hard.
Always remember the bloke in the crowd with the very loud voice shouting
'Come on Cammy'
Gone much too young the poor lad. R I P

Bit of a cult hero in his time thats for sure and a very solid leader of the line.

Didn't his brother have a brief spell with us too?

I suppose he did have a cult following.

There was a division on the old Viking chat board about him

Those who loved his effort, those who weren't impressed with his ability Infront of goal. The nickname was harsh though.

I was of the opinion that I'd rather see a lazy player with an eye for goal than an industrious one who wasn't so effective.

Ultimately football is only a game.
For him to pass at such a young age is tragic.

His brother was younger and quicker. Neil was a big awkward centre forward to play against. Loved a battle, a decent scoring record. He was one of the players involved in the club rebuilding itself. Always gave the best he had. Awful news for his family, no age to die at forty five. Hard to believe really. Sorry for his family.

45 is no age at all, very sad.

Neil was one of the first strikers I got to see at Rovers, after Ian Duerden and Dino Maamria.

He may not be remembered as an amazing striker for us, but he did a damn sight better than two of his team mates at the time who came in with much more fanfare - Justin Jackson and Carl Alford.

He was a good honest pro that earned his money. He sounds like he was well thought of everywhere he went.

Very sad news and thoughts with his family.

Always thought he put the effort in, which was half the battle.

Gratitude to him for working hard for us, where it seems he played the most games.
