Title: Preston North End v Rovers
Post by: RobTheRover on August 06, 2010, 01:05:50 pm
I'm starting this early, seeing as I'm off to Ibiza in the morning (Cussy, no robbing my house!  Filo has got your buttp1ug!)

I'm going for a 1-0 win, Shiels with a little shimmy on the edge of the box which sends the keeper the wrong way, and he rolls it into the other corner.

MoM - Copps.  always a danger.

I know its been posted on other threads, but the anticipation for me is increased by memories of going to Deepdale for the opening game of the season when we'd just won promotion to the old Third Division under Billy Bremner. Those are still golden days for me, but how much better have we done already!

I'm excited about this season, I think it's going to be a good one, and I don't see why we shouldn't kick off with a result.

Match preview for this game now available on Viva Rovers (http://vivarovers.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/north-end-lights-preston-preview-2/). As is now customary with these threads I'm going for a draw. A score one. Rovers will play the better football, Preston will score from a set-piece.

Be great if we could get off to a flyer and do what Watford did last night. If Billy can do what Danny Graham did and bag a couple of goals we're sure to come away with something.

I can see a 2-2 though as I think our defence are still unsure of themselves.

Im going to say 2-1, Billy and Deano with the goals and preston scoring late on.

On Player. Chris Mortley has been doing some good commentary but, he sometimes tends to waffle on instead of keeping up with play.

First corner.

well off the pace  against wba and i understand was near

He's the only other proper striker we've got. All the rest like Hayter and Fairhurst seem more like players who play just behind the striker.

1 match ban for Gillett. Does it come into immediate effect for second booking? If so he'd only miss the Accrington game so not too bad.

Hopefully he will miss the accrington game not the Brizzle game

brizzle should be an easy game, 3 down to millwall. ;)

Agreed I think Payne will do well- Gillet - I get the feeling he has to play out of his skin to have a good game where Payne perhaps has more ability ?

Sounded like a great match!  Although I've only followed the Rovers since 2005 fromL1, where they have consistently progressed upwards to this point, I still can appreciate where they came from.  Having said that though, it appears that this season will be a truly remarkable and exciting one.  The talent of both the team and management is superb   Would have loved to have seen it -- or even heard it in the L.P.  Sadly, never got into the L.P., but the updates on this thread helped a lot --  even though I was so nervous in the second half, I couldn't even do that!

FAO Filo:  will PM you for assistance r/t L.P if that's ok so I don't appear a total arse on here (tho that can't be helped!)  :-)

Well done and cheers.
