How can I boost the signal on a wireless router, its a Thompson 585 v7 (freebie from isp) unfortunatly the easy option of swopping antennas isn't possible as its fixed
-
Whats the receiver like at the other end? USB? Built in?
-
Built in
Thats why I was wondering what could be done (without changing the router)
If I could put a gain antenna onto the router or the laptop end no problem but thats about the limit of my knowledge on this wireless stuff and the Missus has banned me from running ethernet cables all over the house :(
I've already pee'd her off wiring my desktop in

To be honest, you do need a better router. You could try an external USB dongle, it might help a little.
Where is your router and PC situated?
-
The routers in the front room and plugged into the phone master socket, ethernet cable to my desktop and trying to get a better signal upstairs for my lads laptop.
Tbh I thought another router may have been the only real answer or at least one I can swop aeriels over on
Thanks for the help

Oops just found the answer.
I've got a wireless sender I use to send sky tv upstairs to the bedroom, changed the channel on that and hey presto

Incidently, if anyone needs a Wi Fi antenna, i've got hundreds of them.
