So, what was you all time favorite kids program? and hands up how many of a certain age spent their toddler years running round the living room stiff legged like the most enormous spotty dog you ever saw?
I loved Scooby Doo, untill Scrappy doo appeared anyway..
And the biggest question of all.......
Were you Magpie or Blue Peter?
Swap Shop or Tizwaz??
-
I turned to Tiswas after I got turned down for an Action Man Training Tower on swapshop. Also Tiswas had a TIE fighter getting blown up in the credits.
But the best kids programme ever was...... MarineBoy. Japanese anime \"boy fights underwater monsters\" action, with oxygen-giving chewing gum. Awesome when you are 5 years old.
Edit : just found the first episode on Google video... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1389807280031794325#
Edit #2: Battle of the Planets came a close 2nd for the same reasons.
-
Marine Boy was top banana. I nearly drowned at Thorne baths thinking I was him, with my mates performing the roles of Splasher the Dolphin and Bolton Piper.
Tiswas....as I was getting older and found that my sparra was not just for pissing out of.
Blue Peter.....Sarah Greene had the same effect
..........as did Crystal Tips off Crystal Tips and Alistair
-
Chorlton and the Wheelies
Battle of the Planets
Jamie and the Magic torch
Sports Billy

My formative years were spent drawing Fireball XL5, the nearest thing we had to Science Fiction in the mid sixties. The best programmes.... The Tomorrow People, Jackanory(depending on who was reading), The Magic Roundabout ( with surreal commentary by Eric Thompson)
Magpie, and definitely Tiswas, but by then I was in my early twenties and watching to see Sally James in the bubble baths!
-
My Top three are as follows:
Jamie and the Magic Torch....

Ulysses 31....

Thundercats....

God. They dont make intros like they used to anymore.

-

I saw the very first Tiswas in 1974, back when it was on ATV only. I was living in Derbyshire at the time.
-
Another vote for Thundercats here. Sword of Omens, give me sight beyond sight!
I also enjoyed Grange Hill during the Gonch/Teggs/Krissy years. Especially Krissy!
-
Ministry Of Mayhem... Not the greatest show but definitely up there in the greatest moments, with the classic Holly Willoughby boob. (pardon the pun)
Warning mild nudity.

Aye. And THAT wouldn't be allowed today.
Nor would the scene of Cathy Hargreaves singing about it being \"so frustrating when you're really into mating and there ain't no loving man around.\" I suffered dehydration as a 14 year old that evening...
In our current lather about kiddy-fiddlers, we've deprived a whole generation of healthy teenagers this sort of indoor exercise incentive.
But ni mind eh? They can always go on line and see some 17 year old Ukrainian waif being degraded.

Ah Paula ann Bland, fine choice,i remember me and Mrs E going to see her and Nigel Pivaro (Terry Duckworth) at the Gaumont/Odeon in the late 80's in some comedy play.
The place was packed, the main reason being they both got there kit off,and take it from me GM-MarkB the twins looked mighty fine.
-
Ah the Gaumont.... I was there too, remember telling my mum I'd gone to see the latest installment of the Death Wish franchise. I had a right crush on Paula in them days :-)
BTW, any chance of scaniing the inside pages as well. :woohoo:

As a child growing up in the 80s I always found a lot of kids TV very disturbing.
This for instance was bad enough but then a mate of mine told me that what was in the Picture Box, lying on the purple velvet cushion was a human tongue.
