Title: Coventry Line Up
Post by: big fat yorkshire pudding on September 28, 2010, 01:02:48 pm
Slightly worried about this one, SOD hinted in his interview he'd need big centre halves for this one and that worries me as if he goes with Lockwood back in we'll lose any sort of pace at the back again.  I reckon this would be an ideal game to play 3 centre halves, keep Dumbaya in but have Lockwood and Martis alongside O Connor, I reckon that would be much more secure.  Wouldn't be too worried if it was Hird/Webster coming in but Lockwood and Martis as a partnership is just awful and any sign of that and we'll be in trouble as Marlon King is no slouch.

Coventry will play with two up top- probably Platt (who is very strong in the air) and King (big and pacy.) However, they lack width if they play the same midfield as they did on Saturday- although either Bell or Ward might play and that would give them width.

If Lockwood is going to play to match their height then I think we need a sweeper- probably O'Connor- playing behind the two centre backs.

If we go back to the Lockwood - Martis partnership, then we'll be worse off, regardless of who we're playing.

I understand we have signed a guy called Byron Webster .... who knows !!! I personally hope he can come onto the scene and give Dumbuya type performances . It is our weakest position that needs to be bolstered and it would be great if Webster grew into our new giant Centre back.

Same back four with Sam being employed as a sweeper and another head when the bombs come raining in, releasing George and Muzzy to raid up the wings and give width and pace to attacks coming along the ground. He would replace Gillet due to lack of height. Hayter in to give more heading power and a link up to Billy instead of Deano.

Could be a good shout that, one thing we do have is options in most areas, does Stock come in?  Hird, Lockwood or Webster?  And do we use Hayter/Shiels with Sharp, that's before you think about who drops out, Gillett or Woods?  Good decisions to have really.

Webster is huge.  He was like a beanpole when he came to us, but at the end of last season he had filled out massively.  Cant wait to see him back after his injury filled 12 months.

Certainly a big lad and a talented player , I bet SO'D can't wait to get him fully up and running again. He will increase our options no end at the back.  :)

Well Byron fits the bill but hasn't played for a long time. Maybe risky to play him from the off.

Locky on the other hand will get his head under the bombs so long as you don't expect him to turn and chase.

That means JOC between Locky and Martis is the better option. This gives Dumbuya and Friend to push on and make up for the extra defender, so long as they don't get dictated to by their wide men/man.

Could be an interesting battle between Dumbuya and MacIndoe.

For anyone listening to SOD's short interview on Radio Dee Dah yesterday he seemed to be saying that he would play Hayter up front alongside Billy tonight.
In SOD's usual camouflaged way he kind of hinted that it would make Billy happy if Hayter was there.
Not sure but do I detect Billy is unhappy with the formation we are playing at the moment?

Sean has brought back Hird and Lockwood looks like three at the back. They may make one good defender between three of them. Jimmy gone to wing back with George. Gillett left out so with th midfield four there is not a tackler. Pity we could not find place for James Hayter.
