Well I wouldn't normally BUT given the choice of that or climbing that Tower it would be a no brainer

We just finished a 280 metre guyed mast in Ajman 30 minute drive from Dubai and I am currently supervising a 150 metre free standing tower in Doha Qatar.
Lots of tower riggers in and around Donny although most only do the baby stuff 30m etc
I posted this on youtube a few years ago not sure if the link works, I am filming at 1050ft

f**k me Dubai Rover! I really did feel my knees go all weak watching that clip of yours. And I'm sat down. I could no more do that than pull out my own tonsils. Will you come and fix the leak in my roof please? It's only about 20 foot up.
Cheers

Christ, I watched that OP one and my stomach is in knots. I like the old terra firma too much, I reckon.

Most of 'em are too fat to go any higher than 30m G!
Big difference (I imagine, being a fully qualified desk jockey) between climbing with all the safety gear and free-climbing like the guy in the other vid
-
I can't watch that OP one. Really. That idiot is climbing about up there without any lines at all! Taht is just about the sickest thing I've ever seen. I feel right queasy now.
That isn't brave. It's completely stark, staring, raving bonkers. And I once rather illegally climbed an electricity pylon when no one was looking.

Electricity pylon? Not clever, but I guess you know that now
Climbing at those heights, I suppose its only dangerous if you fall!
From what I've read, those guys say the time it would take to clip on and off while climbing to those heights it would take forever, and if they're confident in their own climibing abilities/strength/stamina then its really only a mental thing that they need to overcome.

Indeed...you need to be to do it !

Respect Dubai. Deep respect.
Me, I'll freely admit that me sphincter relaxes somewhat when I'm faced with owt like that.
I once had to climb up to the top of the old floodlight pylons on the away end at Bramall Lane to do a condition survey. Got to the second platform, about 30m up and couldn't handle going up the final ladder.

Funnily enough, neither can the Blades :P

Dubai- you must belong to the 'Utter Nutter' club!!!!!!
Anybody see a pic in the newspaper of a guy cleaning his flat's windows?
Nowt unusual in that I hear you say, except he was wearing only shorts, standing on a window ledge 35 STOREYS UP!!!
No harness or f**k all, just holding onto the open window frame with his left hand while holding a squeegee in his right hand at arms length!! Not as high as DubaiRover but a million times more stupid.
Not sure where, Middle East somewhere.

Aye, I saw that one.
Mind, I reckon there was more to it than meets the eye. I'm reckoning on a \"Husband coming home early and no wardrobe to hide in\" scenario.

Well I wont be watching that again, its made my bottom feel funny! why the hell do we need these things, cant they put them underground or something?

f**king hell! they can`t be right in the head!
What gets me, is why have they got helmets on? they are hardly going to save them from a cracked bonce if they fall from there, I was shitting myself watching that!

The helmet is there for two reasons, one is to keep the Health & Safety freaks quiet and two is just to strap his camara on.

I am with you there Rob - my knees were like jelly and that is the irrational thing. I KNEW I was sat down in a chair behind a PC Screen
Ironically I am currently introducing a Working at Height Permit \"at work\" which kicks in if you go higher than the first part of a 2 part ladder - and where a harness etc is needed when you use a Cherry Picker or Man lifted by Fork Lift Truck !!!! Some difference

... and dont forget the guy COULD hit his head on any of the rungs above and cut himself !
Seriously though he might hit his head so hard that it might cause him TO fall so that will be another reason
-
and don't forget the helmet may also assist if a low flying aircraft skims his napper. HSA amended and now in line with the Aviation Act.
I am with you all. I felt myself going all woozy just looking at it and had to turn away a few times.

Another reason for the hard hat is you dont always climb on the ladder but inside the tower, so always banging your bonce on the steel or equipment. You will notice (if you dare watch it again) the hats have no peak on them at the front so you can look up a bit easier as you climb.
The yanks were pussies in my opinion why the f**k drag a bag beneath you on a rope?? thick as shite it would get caught on everything as you climb.
