Going out tonight - anyone suggest a good one and where it is?
Cheers
-
I used to enjoy Raaj on Copley Road but it's closed now. Donny Tandoori on same road and Taj Mahal on High Street are decent.
Heard good things about Everest on Netherhall as well.
-
Go Elachi in Armthorpe then get a taxi or bus to town. Its worth the extra hassle.
If not, taj Mahal.
-
Would have to agree...Elachi is really nice
-
Cheers guys - I'm from Scawsby so usually go Naz on york rd which is excellent too!
-
I would also say Elachi. Food is fantastic and a nice relaxed atmosphere too.
-
Taj Mahal is on par with Elachi. Having said that the last time I went to Elachi it was very poor, although I expect it was a one off. There's plenty of decent ones in town without having to trek to Armthorpe.
-
1. Donny Tandoori
2. Elachi
3. Dower
I might see you shagger, I'm going ooot in a bit and might just bash a curry into me at some stage.
-
Everest on Netherhall Road - excellent really was and they seemed extremely grateful for the custom.
Taxi wise adams taxi near the polish bar very good and cheap £3 back to scawsby!
-
Was it busy Norfolk? I've heard alot of the restaurants around Netherhall and Copley Road are absolutely dead on their arse. I mentioned earlier that Raaj closed not long ago. I spoke to the owner not long back, and alot of the regulars were put off going due to alot of car break ins and crime in the area recently.
Its a shame because there's some pretty damn good eating places round there aswell.
-
Agreed, at one time there was always a cheeky little wait for Donny Tandoori. Now there is hardly anyone in at any time. Although now, what's left are the loyal ones built over the years, but it's the Weekend trade that will keep it alive. I have noted the portions are smaller to what they used to be, and no surprise really as it tries to cut costs to compete. San Remo's another that seems always dead and laddo inside (darn forgot his name now) is a right perfect host, especially when the instruments come out.
I fear for the eating places down there and even on Netherall in due time.
Once the night-time economy starts at the weekend, Donny town centre may as well have a large bubble over it that you cannot walk out of, as anything outside it, seems to struggle ie Duke Street, St Sep, Baxtergate, Market area, Copley. Inside that bubble might as well be one big pub, as they are all the same, and lot's of eating places (sit down and take aways.)
-
Nino, top bloke too. I used to frequent San Remo quite often as one of my best mates at school had an Italian Dad who was good freinds with him. Used to get preferential treatment I suppose
-
Does anyone know whether it's the same people who had/have the Everest takeaway in Stainy?
They used to be excellent but we get our takeaways from the Ayesha in Edenthorpe these days.
-
Takeaway wise we order from Bangla Chef in Clay Lane. Its owned by Elachi and its the best takeaway i've ever had. It's not cheap mind.
-
We normally order taj for takeaway but tried the one in Warmsworth recently, used to be Cecil and found it better than taj imo.

I've heard varying reports on that one some have said its good, but I know of a group of about 20 people that went there and half of them walked out and most of the others didn't pay in full.
It was on the run up to xmas last year all the meals had been pre booked so they knew what people wanted, some got there starters, others were still waiting half an hour later! food turning up cold etc.
Possibly just an off day, as others I know say its been good

It makes you wonder how any of these establishments can stay open at all, if theres no customers in there on a Saturday night.
You see its areas like this with established businesses the council should be investing in and not pumping millions into new council premesis up at Waterdale. Its a shame the area is in such decline as there are and have been some fantastic eateries round that end, and all used to be really busy.

\"Aaragh\" is always a decent phrase to ejaculate while on the pan evacuating last night's Phal.
\"Aagrah\" is a decent curry 'oil.

Gurkha Curry.........hmmmmmm. Is that a curry that has to have been on the menu 4 years, otherwise it gets sent home?
