Title: New Year Resolutions
Post by: BLIR on December 19, 2010, 05:47:14 pm
A pile of old shite most people would agree. However, if you are going to resolve to become fitter, lose weight etc etc then have a look at the following:

http://www.pmadoncaster.com/

I'm not connected to the place (other than being a student there myself) so not really a plug as such?

Martial arts are a great way to get/keep fit, learn new skills and increase confidence in adults and kids alike.

The classes are varied and, although very hard work, you can be as fit or as unfit as you like - you WILL get fitter the further down the line you go.

They teach a variety of martial arts disciplines, all bundled together as MMA, and have very helpful and competent instructors.

I've found it to be excellent - both for myself and for my 8yr old daughter.

Why not give it a go?

I know a few who might be interested in that. Thanks :-)

I used to love kick boxing but like everything else fitness wise, it cost's a frickin fortune to go.

Did Tae Kwon Do with my daughter a few years ago and it is great exercise and lots of fun.  For me though I just wanted to learn the basics and then just practice, but the place we went and probably most places, want you to do competitions to move up and that wasn't my intent when starting the classes.  Still was great fun and would recommend it as well.

I'm still old fashioned I feel. Just a telling off or a clip on the back of the hand with my kids

True, it's not the cheapest but you get very good value for money and the timings of the classes mean that you can easily do 3 or 4 a week.

There's no pressure to move onto a level you're not comfortable with. There are 13 different gradings from white to black and you chose to progress or not. Theoretically, you could stay at white belt for years if you chose to although I don't know of anyone doing this.

Can't remember how much I progressed, but I passed the belt tying test and the counting test ok, though when it came to remembering all the moves, I would forget some of them and feel like a klutz. But I still have the uniform so could always start again someday.

Oh no!!  Is it wrong then to use martial arts on your kids????!!!

Seriously, and I know you're joking, but I never hit the kids -- always did the 'time outs'... But when I was a kid, I was one of 4, and if we were really bad, they would threaten us with \"the belt\" !!!  And it wasn't an obi. ;-)
