Title: Wolves vs Doncaster Rovers (replay)
Post by: VivaRovers on January 18, 2011, 12:31:17 pm
Match preview for this game now up on Viva Rovers (http://vivarovers.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/molin-me-molineux-aha-wolves-preview/)

I normally predict a draw, but don't have that luxury tonight. Actually the last train home leaves before a penalty shoot-out would be completed so I'm going to say 3-3 with me never knowing the final score.

Also, for those that can't make it Viva Rovers will as always be tweeting updates from the game. If you're on Twitter follow @vivarovers, and if you're not you can get the same updates by refreshing this page (http://twitter.com/vivarovers)

A good win tonight , predict 3-1 Rovers. Our lads arses will still be stinging from Satdi, play our game properly i.e on the floor and the game is eminently winnable.

Looking at the bbc updates we should be mullering them, they reckon we've got 12 players on the pitch. Woods and Shiels are there and Shiels is also on the bench. That guy is very talented!!

Our lads really will have to go to 'Diving lessons' to get anything from match officials.
This is bloody ridiculous , we play the game by NOT play acting and they penalise us.............that is not the spirit of the game!! fookin furious time after time we always get NOWT.
When we don't touch oppo players they get penalties and it's all fair and above board my arse.
Title: Re:Wolves vs Doncaster Rovers (replay)
Post by: DonnyBazR0ver on January 18, 2011, 08:46:03 pm
Sounds like we're doing ok. Occasional hints of getting in to danger area. Last ball and decision making where it hurts letting us down again. Not getting early crosses or shots in when we have chance.

I hope we come out and step it up, as we know like at the KM we can cause them problems. Steady as she goes at the back. Locky and Sam playing well again.

It wa definitely a penalty but we are playing a premiership team so what do you expect.
We can get a result here if we stop treating it as a training session especially in defence.
For all you Wilson lovers he is totally lost.

There you have it Wellred - nobody ever said Wilson was Premiership quality. If Wolves are any good then Wilson should be a little lost if there's a gulf in class between the two leagues. Judge him in Championship games.

Reading between the lines on the BBC text commentary, Wolves appear to have been a shade fortunate as Donny came out at the start of the second half and dominated until the second goal.

That makes it even worse then!

Unable to turn dominance into goals and have the defenive capabilities of a Conference South Team and a confused flapper in goal.

Might as well have turned out a second string tonight - couldnt have done any worse.

Seriously though, somehow things have gone badly awry this last month and SOD must take a serious look at the players he has given a game to - starts and subs - and try to figure out where the combinations haven't worked.

SOD has had a torrid time with selections due to injuries and has been put in an awkward position trying to get a combination of players that can play to the style he wants from them.

Players are now starting to come back from injury so the situation should ease up a little. There are new players in the squad to put into the mix, so hopefully SOD will be able to come up with a different mix for Saturday, a mix that will perform as a cohesive unit and put some goals on the board for us.

As long as Sullivan and one or two others don't get the nod to start then things should be interesting and maybe, just maybe a point at least will be in the bag by final whistle v Ipswich.

Oh, re Friend - yes I suppose you aren't far out. Leave him on the bench.

Christ thank god thats over. Anyone know the last time we lost 5-0? Have a word Sean! JOC and Kilgallon at CB on saturday with chambers and hopefully mills if we can sign him. Anyone know when muzzy is back?

Stick keegan in for wilson and woods in for sullivan (although can never see this happening).

Poor - back 4 were very poor Sully to partly to blame for Doyles goal but again not helped by poor defending for the other 4 goals. Chambers has had a shocker as well. Killa and Sousa in the middle on Sat with JOC on the right and Friend on the left (he is the only left back we have got at the moment!) Keegan in for Wilson, Shiels, Copps and Oster, Billy and Brooker up front. Sully in goal.

Knee jerk reaction making wholesale changes is just setting us up for cementing a downward spiral.
Somehow Sean has got to pick the bones out of a now rapidly crumbling squad and shore things up for a bit.

You say we are getting players back from injury but as soon as one comes back we lose another.

Word is Woods has done his groin again and I'm guessing that's going to mean an op.

Same with Gillett, as soon as he comes back and plays in a practice game his knees gone again.

No word yet on how Stock and Dumbuya are fairing.

1. I wouldn't let Souza anywhere near our starting 11 again, no matter how poorly they defended tonight!
2. How can you drop Hayter? Ok he hasn't had the best of games against Reading and Wolves, but his record this season speaks for itself.

Actually yeah, you're right. Hayter has only scored 9 (NINE) this season, which is a massive 2 (TWO) less than Billy Sharp.

Hayter needs to be ashamed of himself, in all honesty. He calls himself a striker? What right has he got to be selected over a man who hasn't even got through a full 90 minutes of football since Rovers got promoted to the Championship?

Ring the changes!!

Yes  we were but don't forget Wolves are at the arse end of the Premiership and looking at dropping back to the Championship next season unless misery guts McCarthy can get them to perform.

The way the defence capitulated again tonight is inexcusable. Time for wholesale changes. Okay if that happens we might get spanked again at Ipswich but at least it would show that SOD is not afraid to make changes to try for a better result.

I cannot bear to see any more 4 or 5 goals go in against us. It's embarrassing especially considering that everyone knows DRFC can play stylish football and get results as well.

Changes must come - starting with Sulli.

Sarcasm love it! Makes me smile

Suggesting a change to the line up that is all - Hayter has been crap for the last 2 games (anyone disagree?) - give Brooker a chance to see what he can do - if we don't give him a chance from the start of a game he is never going to get the chance to play a full 90 minutes - the one 10 minutes or so here and there are going to prove nothing. Failing that we could drop Sharp as well he has not been much better and play Fairhurst in his place and have him partner Brooker. Why not?  And if people say he is not experienced enough for the level neither is Woods in goal!

Eh, why not drop Oster while we're at it? What about Copps? Or Jimmy?

None of them have been very good for the last 2 games.

In fact, why don't we just play the youth team? And then when their extensive shot at the first team of a massive two games is up, we can buy a new squad!

Well last night wasn’t the best of games to watch….i was surprised how little donny actually tried to take the game to wolves, if you’d scored early whole different game imo, but at 1-0 we looked surprisingly comfortable and you rarely troubled us. If you got back 1-1 at this stage we may found it hard stepping up a gear to get any more goals. But then the 2nd goal killed the tie and when we relaxed further the goals came at the end. Wasn’t your best display last night, but you did superbly in first leg imo and played some lovely football that day so do take positives out of the tie. Wish you all well for the rest of the season, lets hope we’re not playing you next season just yet please.

And the chance came, denied a nailed on penalty at 1-0!

i maybe wrong as you had 2 shots for pens, but one in the second half which i first thought \"boy we're lucky there\" was shown to be on the highlights as a dive (in my obv biased opinion)

Not had chance to be on the forum much this week, so here's my belated thoughts.

Sulli couldnt really be \"blamed\" for any of the goals.

1) free header despite Locky and JOC in close attendance, and it crept in at the far post, just outside his reach.

2) Sam should have stopped the ball coming in, but it took a deflection off Locky (I think) to take it past Sulli.  Very lucky goal.

3) Sully was exposed by the defence and more or less had it covered, but it hit the post and went in.  An inch further to the left and it stays out.  Very lucky goal.

4) More defensive woes means Sully has a 1 on 1 to deal with and gets a finger to it, but not enough to stop it going in.

5) The shot comes through a crowded box and nestles in the far corner.  Again Sully is so very close to getting something on it.  It seemed to go through about 3 pairs of legs from where I was sat (low down in row 3)

That was a very strange game.  Even the Wolves fan I work with who went with us said 5-0 was flattering, and both sides played badly.  The first half, I lost count of the number of times we played a ball into the box and had Oster or someone running in to smash it in, only for a wolves defender to get a toe to it and divert the path of the ball just enough to take the scoring opportunity away.  It was just one of those nights

I tend to agree apart from 3). No keeper should be beaten at his near post and I think even Sulli will put his hands up to that one.

As for it being \"lucky\"- well, that is the extra quality of striker you come up against when you play a Premier League team. The last two games have probably made us look a much worse side than we are, but in terms of a reality check they've shown how far away we are from being Premier League standard. Something that applies to just about every side in the Championship, it must be said.

Agree- the first one (the one on Coppinger) in the first half was a stuck-on penalty. The one in the second (on O'Connor, I think) didn't have much going for it. The ref was a real homer (Sir Alex would love him at Old Trafford) and the \"assistant\" on our side was there for purely ornamental reasons, I think. However, I don't think the officials affected the result.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Play like you do against the big boys (Man City, Chelsea) when you play the lesser lights and you'll stay up, no bother.

Ah, you mean Mr Bean!  Did anyone else think he ran the line as though he'd said to the ref \"Here, watch this!  I'll do my best Mr Bean impression in front of the Donny fans!\"?  Complete with knees tied together by elastic!  Amazing work, Mr Lino!
