Title: GB Bench press this weekend.
Post by: streatham dave on January 25, 2011, 09:06:43 pm
My Dad Tom Collins (a rovers fan since the 50's) will be benching at the GB Bench press this weekend. 4th last year in his 100kg weight class and won over 60's title in the class which he will be trying to defend. He doesn't expect to come anywhere near as high in the comp this year as lots of very good(and mostly younger) qualifiers this year. He still hopes to retain his age title but some tough competition. Weight class has changed to 105 kg (less weight classifications to get more competition in each group). Last year was his first in competition where as well as above he also became Yorkshire and North East of England champion (all ages) Commonwealth record holder(over 60), 5th in worlds(over 60)4th in Europe(over 60). I know he is a little nervous as anything can happen on the day and can impact upon future international selection. Fingers firmly crossed everything goes well for him.

Can he play midfield? Could do with a bit of muscle in there.

Thanks. Not sure he's mobile enough for the midfield general any more.LOL. Still being quite barrel chested they would have go around him.

Dave,

How about your dad doing some half time entertainment? how about lifting our spirits! That would be one hell of an achievement!

Just to let you know he retained his over 60's British title with a new British record of 175KG. Which should also extend his Commonwealth record. He has been picked for the provisional squad for the World Masters in Denmark, hoping to improve upon his 5th last year.
