Brings back memories that does. A good band. Enjoyed them and miss 'em.
But it's Slow Hands for me Filo, followed by Jan Akkerman. And I bet there's few under 40 who've even heard of him. But he was bloody good.

Not bad Filo. I could spend all night listening to stuff like that with a couple of joints. Oh. I often have. Ever listened to Stardust and The Gravy Train by Ian Brown (Music of the Spheres)? I just whang the repeat button and lay back....

Andy Powell and the invention of the twin lead guitar. Take your pick of Ted Turner or Laurie Wisefield as the second lead. Both bloody great. I still listen to this band, and go see 'em, all the bloody time!

PS If you ever get the chance, look out for a French (!!!) blues band called Men in BLue. Sounds daft, but Google them and listen to 'So Long'. I don't have the words to describe it.....

The best living guitarist has died. Saw him play when he was just 25 (when I was 14) and he was awesome, got me into guitars and is my all time favourite player. The best guitar solo ever is on the 1974 original version of 'Still in Love With You' by Thin Lizzy.
Gutted to be honest.

Good guitar solo, but \"Still got the Blues\" gets my vote, by a long way!
You just don`t get bands like Thin Lizzy anymore, as big as they were, in this day and age they would have blown bands like Metallica away! and that`s from a fan of Metallica

I posted something on another forum I frequent yesterday which was, thinking about it, it's almost 25 years since Phil Lynott died. That's crazy !
I never saw Thin Lizzy live and it's one of my biggest regrets in life. I wish I had. As Filo says, bands like them don't really exist anymore (with a few notable exceptions) and bands don't leave a musical legacy like they did either.
Their music will never be old hat, out of fashion or what ever you want to say.....it's timeless

Seriously, Motorhead are about as near you get to the sort of attitude, particularly live, that Lizzy personfied. Despit Lemmy now beingof pensionable age his band still tour the UK EVERY year.
Its over 330 years since 'Ace of Spades' was released, yet Motorhead are still churning out some cracking albums, their new one 'The World is Yours' is a belter.
Plus, anyone, who can play bass competently whilst taking lead vocals, are especially gifted. Phil Lynott, and Lemmy, fit that category.

Brain Robertson was considered too melodic for Motorhead. Come on TWD, those bands are oceans apart, or at least an Irish Sea.
No comparison, motorhead are just a bit shit, whereas Lizzy still appeal to young and old alike, melodic rock. Lemmy and Phil Lynott are like chalk and cheese.
Filo, you don't play guitar. If you did you'd see the difference between the still in love solo and the blues one. The former was done when it wasn't compulsary to play at one thousand miles an hour to be good. I seriously challenge anyone to reproduce that solo, it is technically superb, even with the odd mistake, and it's almost impossible, whereas anyone can play fast. Tells you all you need to know when his replacement in Lizzy refused to re-record the song as he said it was impossible to improve upon.
