Title: Avenue Q and Culture
Post by: CusworthRovers on March 31, 2011, 11:23:26 am
Ok you heathens, anybody seen or heard of this bad boy.

Went to see the critically acclaimed Avenue Q last night which has previously swept Broadway and the West End. It's now doing the rounds nationally. Twas on at the Lyceum, in that there dee dar Sheffield. Bit of a musical, play thing involving puppets, but funny and very poignant on life issues, and how society really is and what we think. Well worth a look if you ever see it advertised.

First time I've been around that area of Sheff in years. It's the square/plaza bit with the Crucible and Lyceum the central point. Surrounded were cafe/cafe bar things. Was a bit of a shocker for me, as I got the feeling everyone looked culture vultured up to their knackers, everyone drank skinny latte's, excpet me with my pint of tetleys, and I got the feeling everyone was called 'darling' or 'luvee'. All the food that came out was a mixture of different shades of green leaves. It seemed that every chuff that walked outside and round the plaza area, couldn't do so without a cardboard cupped coffee in one hand and a mobile talking away in the other.

I'm afraid I was a little out of my depth folks.

However, we could do with something like that in Donny ie get a good Playhouse, Gig Place, Civic, Little Theatre all close together, with nice eateries/drinking establishments and a place of chill, karma, reflection and thoughts. Would be ideal for the lads after the match Saturdays or a Sunday afternoon ie Killer Pool, Cards and a few mucky strippers

I saw it a few years ago down here in The Big Smoke. It's the only musical I've been to that I actually enjoyed...although I think I've only been to two in total.

It was odd how after a short while you didn't really notice the actors anymore and you just focused on the puppets. Some of the songs are cracking, particularly \"Everyone's a Little Bit Racist\".

Yep agreed, and one or two on here could do with taking that in. I also liked the song about The Internet is for Porn. Surprisingly I enjoyed the sex scene with Katy Monster and Princeton (I also had a lazy for the lass who played Katy Monster and the Sex Siren blonde bombshell puppet. Is it wrong to have sexual thoughts over a puppet?
