Just got back from Rhino’s in Bentley. My mate Harry was on his high horse again and spouting his usual tripe after six pints of John’s. We were talking about people who rose to fame only to quickly sink into oblivion. First name that came out in the conversation was eighties funny man Roy ‘Spook’ Jay, who according to Harry had his career cut short after indecently exposing himself on stage. I didn’t contest his statement but don’t remember seeing it displayed in the papers.
More revealing things popped out as he informed me that once famous former Rovers star Willie Watson is the nephew of present Rovers benefactor Dick Watson, and I must admit it sounds true going by the link in their names. Harry was cocksure about it anyway.
Going back to comedians I asked him if he remembered old ‘rubber face’. Harry said of course he did, and in fact said that Ron Atkinson was one of the funniest men he’d seen. I said “no Harry, I don’t mean Ron Atkinson, and I don’t mean Rowan Atkinson either, who you’re clearly confusing the former football manager with. I mean funny man impressionist Phil Cool, old rubber face himself”. I told Harry that I’d heard Cool went one gurn too far and swallowed his own head, but know it all Harry said he’d become a recluse because of his dislike of meeting people and was working at the job centre in Barnsley.
Can anyone confirm that Dick and Willie are related?
And what really happened to Roy ‘spook’ Jay and Phil ‘rubber face’ Cool?

Willie Watson was brought up in Sheridan Ave ,Balby and i'm sure Dick Watson is originally from Leicester, so doubtful they are related.
PS..Gartom probably chased Willie all over Weston Rd park during the 60's....

Hehe, very good Bentley, sure it wasn't a dream?
Phil Cool did indeed swallow his own head pretty much turning himself inside out and did work in the Barnsley Jobcentre, as it's normal there apparently. He got the sack though after doing it again and turning himself the right way, though most people can't tell it stands out a mile in Barnsley.
As for Dick and Willie, well I've never seen 'em together in the same room, so make of that what you will(ie).

Hi Bentley -- I went to Ozzie (Oswin Avenue Secondary Modern School for Boys) with Graham (Willie or Ginner) Watson in the 1960s. He was a year ahead of me. In the 1970s I also worked with Willie Watson's dad who was a fitter at the Plant. The Watsons were from the Weston Road council estate at Balby, and were solid working class stock. So Willie Watson Senior's brother is not Dick Watson, who is Scottish and is about the same age as me and 'Ginner' Watson, Rovers midfield star in the late 1960s and early 1970s -- Fellow greybeards on here will recall that Ginner Watson went on to make over 200 appearances for Cambridge United after leaving BV.

I think BB is having a bit of a laugh (or pulling yer pissers to be more precise), hope so anyway as I found that post hilarious! Read it again.

Roy spook spook Jay bit off more than he could chew one night in the Old Club in Stainy, he decided to take the piss out of some of the hardest lads in there, when they gave him some stick back, he got the arse on and pissed off to the dressing room, he told the concert chairman he was n`t coming back on, when one of the lads got wind of this he told the concert chairman to tell him that he had 5 mins to get back on stage or he was going to drag him back out. Roy Spook Spook jay climbed out of the dressing room window and did a runner! never heard of him since

I thought Rhino`s was in Woodlands, formally known as the Bomb?

Roy Jay drank himself to death a few years back, in Spain.
-
So was I. What was your sister's name? This was the first year to start mixed classes. It seemed to go downhill from then on.:(

He used to do \"the slither\",saying \"you'll all be doing it soon\" died in Benidorm 2005, his body lay unclaimed for a few weeks before a local businessman stumped up some money to bury him. He was doing the warm up act for \"sticky vicky\".

I too was a product of Oswin Avenue school and I remember two or three of us lads used to hang around with three lasses from Woodfield High school on Weston road. One of them was Graham Watson's sister (dawn?) Sandra Boughgen (sic) and Wendy Ackroyd! Roger Barrett who also played for the Rovers was PE master at the same time aswell!
