Just got back from the Drum in Bentley. We were reminiscing about old times when my mate Harry yet again brought up the events that occurred on mischievous night a couple of years ago.
Harry often brings the story up when he’s had a few pints and fancies a bit of an argument. The problem is I can’t defend myself and tell him the truth of what really happened because it would upset him!
What happened was kids were knocking on doors all evening trick or treating and my door was getting its fare share of knocks. My plan was to ignore the kids for a while because I reckoned if I gave them a treat too early they would tell their mate’s that I was an easy touch and send them round for a treat too.
Next thing the door was knocked on again. Then it got louder and louder until I went to the window. Suddenly a figure with a Freddy Krueger like mask appeared in the dusky mist. I stared back at the image refusing to be intimidated and turned and walked away and sat back down to watch the telly.
Then the cheeky sod started knocking on the window, so I shouted “P*ss Off, and drew the curtains.
I never heard any more trick or treating after that, and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
The following Saturday I walked into the pub and was given the cold shoulder by Harry. I asked him what was up and he said, “ You’re an ignorant s*d”.
I said “ What do you mean?”
He said “ I called round to your house the other night and you stared straight at me and told me to p*ss *ff, and then drew the curtains on me!”
What could I say?
I couldn’t say I thought he was a kid with a Freddie Krueger mask on could I?
Now he still reminds me of the time I was ignorant, and I still refuse to defend my actions in order to protect his feelings!
What would YOU do?
