Title: Should the club have to pay Martis.??
Post by: wing commander on June 29, 2011, 04:40:45 pm
This is a bit contraversial but i'll throw it out there for you to discuss.Personaly im not one of his fans, and i do question his commitment to the cause at times. However i did pick up on this at the back end of last season..

Martis has had a ankle injury for a while with the specialist seeming at the time to reccomend a operation to put it right so he could be fit for the season. The physios updates then said Martis wanted to rest it and see how it went and the tone of the interview suggested he did not agree with him in fact i quote \"you cant force a player to have a operation\"

Now a few months later it appears Martis does need the operation and will predictably miss the start of the season.I imagine one or two people at the club are not that impressed with this as just for a change Martis will be picking up his £5k a week for little return...

So then it being Martis body he should of course have the right to decide not to have a operation, but if the above is true as it has read to me on the updates and other articles, should the club have the right to restrict his money????

You could argue a case both ways imo

I don't think the club would have an option not to pay because of his contract. Im no expert though.

Is it time that long term injured players were paid a reduce rate e.g. Sick pay? Prehaps that would get some of the long term sick back to playing football a little quicker?

Should the club have to pay Martis.?? Of course they should, Hes under contract. Injuries are part and parcel of football, He's still 1st choice centre back in my eyes, hope hes back soon and gets a decent run in the side.

By no means am I an expert in this field but I believe the club take out insurance on players for when this sort of situation arises. I'm not sure whether it's just the top clubs or whether it's every club.

Your missing the point,it would appear on the face of it, that if he would have had the operation when needed he would now be approaching fit. However because it looks like he decided against a operation himself he is now out for maybe 4 months season time.Should he have to accept responsibility for that descision.??

Thing is insurance companies make money (not out of Rovers mind) therefore wether we are covered or not they will recoup in the premium hikes,i would expext its not cheap to insure injuries

How is that the same??? As far as i know Stock followed the recomendations of the specialist, the differance is that it would appear Martis did not..

Unless the words\"you cant force a player to have an operation\" mean something differant to how it sounds

However it appears im on my own on this one...lol

I'm under contract in my job, and even if I am recommended to have an operation by a specialist or not, I am still only allowed 4 month full pay 4 month half.

... Honestly, these footballers don't know just how easy they've got it!!  :headbang:

Well i dont see whats silly about it,if the situation is as its reads then Martis by going against the advice of the medical staff (as it sounds) then he has cost the club a lot of money and cost us a defender for 3 months, dont see why i should be to concerned about him to be honest....If we are desperate for a defender on loan and we havent got the funds then maybe you wont be so sympathetic to his descision.

Where does the info that Martis is out for three months come from? Considering he buggered his ankle over seven months ago, this is getting a bit silly.

Not quite WC, mind I count this as a rare event.  I agree with your take, that there is a world of difference between a player that goes by the speciallist advice and one that doesn't, as in this example.  Besides, who's to say that there isn't a clause in the contract that places financial penalties on a player who goes against speciallist medical advice?

To be fair wouldnt you do the exact opposite of what the drfc medical staff were telling you to get fit ?  I know i would

As far as I'm concerned,yes.
Martis is contracted to us and we promise him the 5k a week or whatever stupid wage he is earning so therefore he should get it unless somewhere in the contract it says \"you must listen to everything drfc medical team tell you\" however i don't think it does.

At the end of the day he has a contract and we were the ones that offered him that,it's his body and he should have the right to do what he want's with it.

Shelton is right,we can't force him into any surgery unless there is a clause in the contract and that's unlikely.
