Title: Brighton v Rovers
Post by: MrFrost on August 03, 2011, 07:01:05 pm
No threads in here for a while.
Shall we start with some predictions?

I predict Osbourne's austerity package will lead to a double-dip recession.

Brighton 3-0 Rovers

2-1 either way, I can't make my mind up. Sharp first scorer though.

I think this game has draw written all over it, 1-1.

Can't see us winning unfortunately. Desperately hope to be proven wrong though.

I would settle for a draw.

I think Brighton might get carried away with the occasion and hopefully we'll have too much for them.

Similar to Bentley Bullet's prediction I can see us going 2-0 up and I think we'll see the game out 2-1.

I think Brighton will fancy their chances and take control of the game early on. I reckon 1-0 to them before half time, maybe a Gordon Greer header :P

I think the deciding factor will be because it's a new pitch once we start playing our football to our best then there is no stopping us. A second onslaught with goals from Sharp, Oster and maybe a new signing to finish the game 3-1.

Absolutely love to come away with a win, but in all honesty, id take a pont from this. Emotions will be high for the 'older' genreation of fans on both sides, and waves of enthusiasm from all others.... New ground, new division, shock factor, all with brighton, but im going for a 1-1, with a cheeky copps chip, 'a la city ground stylie' a cpl of years ago!!
Not there on saturday, gutted!!
Title: Re: BHAFC v DRFC.... Predictions ?
Post by: mkrover on August 04, 2011, 10:04:12 am
fingers crossed for a win like last year, but think a draw could be the best result we can aspire for. 4-4 should make for a special way for the ground to open its league account. Cant wait for it all to start.

I get a feeling of 3-1 to the rovers, but they do know where the goal is, and seem to shoot on sight, so it could be a high scoring game. Let's hope our new defence is as good as it looks on paper. :rtid:

Can't argue with a 2-1 scoreline though, I'll be positive and say Sharp to nab both for Rovers!

I'll pick my team:

Woods

Dumbuya
Naylor
Friend
Spurr

Gillett
Oster
Coppinger
Barnes
Mason

Sharp

Subs:

Sullivan
Hird
Bennett
Hayter
Brown
Title: Re: Brighton v Rovers

I think we can foget about Barnes starting or even getting a game as i think we will break him in gently against Tranmere. Anyway 0-1 Naylor from a corner ;). :rtid:
Title: Re: Brighton v Rovers

Sharp

Barnes Mason Coppinger

Gillett Oster

Spurr Friend Naylor Dumbuya

Woods

EDIT: Just noticed that's the same as Jonathan's.:laugh:

I think we'll lose...3-1. If I had to plump for a scorer, I'd go out on a limb (<_<) and say Sharp.

Team:

Woods

Dumbuya
Naylor
Friend
Spurr

Coppinger
Oster
Mason
Bennett

Hayter

Sharp

It may be a tad too attack-minded though. Either that XI or Gillett in for Bennett anyway. Barnes, Brown on the bench.

I really can't wait to take in some proper football again, it's been way too long since Middlesbrough.

Bennett is going to be a great assett off the bench, we used to have Shiels - big improvement from what iv seen.

1-1 in the game.
Title: Re: Brighton v Rovers

I'd start Bennett, especially away from home. His pace could be deadly on the counter.

The only thing Greer will get will be a headache as Bennett, Copps, Sharp and Barnes run rings around him.

What odds on Greer getting his marching orders for a second yellow....?

I think it's clear what this team is modelled on:

Woods = Valdes

Dumbuya = Alves
Naylor = Puyol
Friend = Pique
Spurr = Abidal

Gillett = Mascherano
Oster = Iniesta
Coppinger = Xavi
Barnes = Messi
Mason = Pedro

Sharp = Villa

Rovcon 2. Squeeky bum time and it's not even 12 !

I hope the players have got the stiffness out of their legs after that horrendous journey yesterday.

Will SOD spring a surprise? BHA have pace in their ranks so will he go with Friend and Hird at the back, or even play with a back 5?

Watching on the liveonlinefooty site. Decent first half, Billy should have scored before his goal. They've had a couple of half chances and Georgie's cleared one off the line but we've got a great chance of getting something today.

Post by: Sandy Lane on August 06, 2011, 03:04:15 pm
Holy moly I thought that was an exciting first half.  We deserved that goal with all the hard work, and then just eked it out when it trickled in.  Naylor was probably lucky he didn't get a red card for the challenge which was shown in slow motion as being very high on the other guy's shin. Billy had a couple of wild shots, buts lots of shots on goal.  Lua Lua seems to be targeted by our guys and I saw a couple of shoves and elbows on him.  The kits are brilliant with black shorts and socks and Woods looks very sharp in his kit outffit!

Great first half!  Now to keep it going, my nerves are shot though!  But I'll also be nervous for our traveling lot if we win as the Brighton fans are certainly very vocal (and numerous).

First one came to us from Wendies, the second from Leeds. They MUST learn our way of working, we can't afford to be losing players through suspension. First half, we controlled most of the time, well worth the lead.

Was a good strike, Woods maybe should have had it.

Benaldo on for Copps.

We've looked rattled since Sharp went off. Mental toughness again not there!

Yep.

Now Hayter injured, 10 men.

Now Hayter! Christ. O'Driscoll must've broken the dressing rrom mirror to warrant this luck.

Well, only after taking out Sharpy, which changed the game entirely.

well if thats the case (with Brown on the bench) somebody has f**ked up or the players has sulked

or both

not good for the season if Sharps out and the team fall apart

The actual strike may have been good, but the way Poyet has behaved, trying to get our players carded and then the way they took out Billy I'm not too impressed with Brighton

Can we arrange for the young man who was involved in deliberately injuring Billy sharp to jumpo on the nback of your leg? Get real, play like this is disgusting.

True.  I'd have thought Browny would have been a better replacement for Sharp.

2-1 Brighton, 98th minute.  Bollox to this I'm off down the pub.

All that so called 'affinity' with Brighton fans totally went out of the window today.
There's just no excusing booing Billy Sharp off at the moment he's carried off.
Disgusting.

After Sharp was stretchered off what was with all of the long balls aimed at Barnes' head? Can we not play with the ball on the pitch with Sharp off?

I'm hearing unconfirmed whispers Billy has a broken leg.  Looked more like achilles area at the time, so that could be duff info.

NAH! all he's done is back a physio with a proven career track record of a long horrendous injury list.Throw into that playing all his squad for only 45mins all pre-season and hey presto!He's ends up with players regularly breaking down with injuries quickly after recovering and a great squad playing great in first halves and usually taking the lead only to be losing points in the second half/last 10mins of matches dues to lack of fitness,concentration and squad numbers for 90mins.Is it really that much of a surprise when it just keeps happening and happening and happening? :headbang: But don't worry,JR has sorted out that awful green away strip and those crap red shorts to black.:dry:

Thanks

If that shithouse Calderon ever suffers a serious injury I hope there's an opposition player standing over him and telling him to get up.
