Cheers Stan, that's f**king hilarious!
Just watching 'One Flew Over...' at the same time makes it even funnier.

I tried a similar experiment in the science lab at Rosso Comp in 1985.
Sadly I only had a selection of base metals which reacted badly to water, and a pot sink. This is in the days before I understood how a U bend actually works.....

I remember my first 'job' as a YTS trainee at Warwick Uni as a Lab technician. One of my first tasks was to prepare a hydrochloric acid solution of a certain concentration. So I had concentrated HCl, water, and a very large bell jar. My instructions were very clear - acid to water.
It was impresseed upon me how important this was before the t**ts left me alone to do it, so I got a kinda mantra going...acid to water...acid to water...acid to water to acid...water to acid...water to acid...
Needless to say I put the acid in first then started adding water. A large cloud of doom descended when I realised that I'd got it wrong and the bell jar was getting very warm indeed. I was only f**king 16 at the time and panicked!
It was only a few weeks later that I was left in charge of handing out potassium cyanide to final year Chem students, weighing it out, making them sign for it, then weighing it back in when they'd done their experiments, and checking that they'd used the amount missing! All the time having a couple of solutions of clear liquids that when added formed a nasty looking goo that I'd have to force them to drink if they 'accidently' ingested any of the KCN, to make them sick, then they had about an hour to get to hospital.
It was at that point I realised that life was going to be a right laugh.
