Hello pal,

I've just stuck a thread up in the Viking Chat about the fact that i'm doing a test run of a live commentary for the match, would you be interested in linking people there if I send whatever viewers I get over to you at the end of the match?

Basically a share-for-share type thing? Up to you, thought i'd mention it :)

1-1 (Barnes '23)

Rovers down to ten after Naylor receives two yellows, but manage to hang onto the one goal lead until injury time, when a back post cross evades the defence and is nodded in by Robinson.

That, or 2-1 Derby.

Gi' oer yer daft t**t. Once in 520-odd professional matches has Naylor been sent off for two yellow cards and once for a professional foul (highly contoversial decision apparently).

The man is a classic example of a rock-hard but professional defender. If he gets sent off tomorrow, I'll bare my arse on the 5th green at Hexthorpe Flats pitch and putt.

Same scoreline as the game earlier this year: 3-1 to Rovers.

Fingers crossed for this match!  I predict a wondrous 1-2 Rovers win and no one hurt or stretchered off!!

P.S.  I guess the logo fairy hasn't gotten to NY yet.  :(

There doesn't seem to be any target up front for us, despite Browny playing, we should be using him as the pivot for others to run onto surely.
Title: Re: DERBY COUNTY v DONCASTER ROVERS
Post by: DonnyBazR0ver on August 20, 2011, 02:46:21 pm
Sounds bloody awful.

2 changes to the team seems to have killed whatever continuity in play we had. Bennett to come on in 2nd half?

I'd say so Baz, on for Reece Brown from what I can tell from commentary.  Poss even on for Chris Brown, the target man role doesn't seem to have worked in the three games we've tried it.

Title: Re: DERBY COUNTY v DONCASTER ROVERS
Post by: Bristol Red Rover on August 20, 2011, 02:54:25 pm
I guess having a target man keeps them occupied at the back, but needs the attacking midfield to be quick up for the lay offs. Lots of effort needed - have we got the stamina?

Oster and Giles need to be given a free role -- someone else needs to anchor at the back; maybe Gillet ? Oster in front of the back 4 is a waste of his talent

I've got a radio link in the changing rooms - Sean \"Milan, pick up that sweaty towel. George, please don't wipe your boots on your socks, what kind of attitude is that for a Captain? Say thanks to the lovely Derby tea ladies! Mmmmm... I needed that. So, we're losing. Mustapha, sit down and listen to me. How are you going to be a winner with an attitude like that... all this bending over and stretching. There's a time and a place for that. Right then... lets see. Simon, can you fold your clothes and not leave them in that scruffy state like you did before going out onto the pitch. No wonder we're losing!.....\"

I guess that the stats do show the story so far. Derby 3 attempts on goal, 2 on target, Rovers 4 attempts on goal, all off target.

Gonna be a long season.

Just one for discussion, but is SOD's Arsenal Of The North brand of football actually possible with the depth of quality we can afford on our budget?  Would he not be better off running this in the Premiership with us bringing in a Bremner-type character?

Poor performance. Somehow we have to change the way we are playing to start this season. The leaders of this side are all out today, except Oster, and he seems to have gone missing, hardly mentioned in this half. The youngsters have performed.......like youngsters, maybe a little bit out of their depth? SOD doesn't have much time to turn this one round, but he needs to.

Don't worry winning isn't important its how we play. Keep passing it around the back four and midfield lads SOD will be happy.
Just try keeping possession don't worry about having a shot or heaven forbid scoring a goal.

This start was all too predictable pre season in our lack of signing a quality keeper.

Woods is League One standard at best.......nothing will convince me otherwise, he may improve...bt that doesnt help us now does it?

We should have pushed the boat out for Murphy pre season...it may well cost us much much more with the decision not to do so.

As for playing this new guy from Chelsea in midfield?!?! Just WTF is going on?!?!

I agree with Sean to a large extent. But geeing them up and getting fire in their bellies is also important. Maybe playing the passing game needs them to be chilled? Spliff rather than tea at half time perhaps?

I just hope Sean looks at whats been happening and looks for that different perspective in a real way, and not trot out the usual trite comments after the game. Take it on the chin Sean and respond!

To be fair I would have preferred to have seen Wilson doing the job that Oster has been doing in front of the back four, and then releasing Oster to be more creative in midfield, keeping the youngsters in reserve if we needed new legs. A safe pair of hands and all that....

im suprised people are so shocked to the start of the season.

Spurr not good enough for league 1 Sheff Wed
Woods not good enough for Championship football
Naylor not good enough and cant play 2 games a week
Dumbuya come from some non league team in outer mongolia
Friend thinks he;'s Franz Beckanbauer
Brown came from relegated Preston

why are so many people shocked ? I had us down for 5 defeats from the 1st 5. Its a good job Brighton, West Ham and Forest played so shit cos it would have been even more embarrassing

Sounds like our some of our senior pro's have gone missing. Oster's been good so far this season but hardly heard his name mentioned today. Marked out of the game by Derby?

Wilson on for Chris Brown. Can anyone say anything positive about that? Maybe we are looking at the goal difference already?

It doesn't make much sense, except that Brown was probably not going to make the full game, and what other options did we have? Baxendale? Another junior player coming on, not a good situation.

SOD never looks at league tables.  The performance table and the treatment table are the only ones that matter.

Don't worry winning isn't important its how we play. Keep passing it around the back four and midfield lads SOD will be happy.
Just try keeping possession don't worry about having a shot or heaven forbid scoring a goal.

But are far as SOD is concerned there isn't a different perspective. He only knows one way.
Sorry but I don't want to see lots of pretty football with no end product and lose every game.

....and his attacking option was?

Baxendale I guess.  Another kid, not what we need at the mo.

Poor performance.  Nobody has really turned up. Not good at all.

Commentator summed it up very well. A shocker.

Confusing team selection, although the injury to out third top scorer (Copps) didn't help. Strange to leave Bennett on the bench and bring in the untried Brown.

Having said that if you don't defend as a team and close people down or just simply mark them, we're not going to do anything.
