Title: Even the god botherers are dreary these days..
Post by: jucyberry on September 01, 2011, 01:37:06 pm
Just had a visit from a pack of johos, well , my door did, I was unavailable..(sat with the sound turned down on the tv).. Have to say, their litrature has taken a bit of a downturn.. No watchtower for this lot, but a little bit of paper with the title WHAT HOPE FOR DEAD LOVED ONES? Now not to be disrespectful, but no hope I'd think. bit of a no brainer that one..After all generally the dead only do stuff in horror movies and fantasy novels usually... ;)

Now, I'm a great believer in everyone worshiping what they want, or not as the case may be, but it does rather peeve me that people can pester and ram their beliefs at a person like that, after all you don't see roving bands of catholics banging on jehova's witnesses doors whilst they are trying to watch Coronation Street do you?

one of my memories of my dad is of him sending a marauding bunch of them off with a flea in their ears on Xmas day of all days. the other is of my mum hiding in the kitchen on her knees so she couldn't be seen and getting caught when the cheeky sods opened the back door to call hellooooo..

or better still the heated arguement infront of my counter between Stephanie, staunch christian, and Caroline , the totally insaine witness who sounds frightenigly like Zed out of police Academy2...
Caroline, .. only the 4400 will be saved...
steff.......how do you know you will be one, there are more than 4400 of you aren't there..
Caroline....those not chosen will be as dust....
Steff, .. so what do you want to be then?
and on and on till.....

I want to come back as a tortoise.... Jan who worked on the deli with me....

Religeious antagonists..0 deli staff 1...lol

I think it's seen as one of their duties to 'spread the word' - i don't think they particularly mind getting short shrift, its the trying as opposed to the succeeding that matters.

My favourite quote on religion comes from Homer Simpson: \"What if we chose the wrong religion? Each week we just make God madder and madder.\"

Or slightly more high-brow Steven Weinberg: \"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.\"

Was always a fan of Bill Hicks and love these quotes

\"Lots of Christians wear crosses around their necks … you really think when Jesus comes back, he ever wants to see a f**king cross?\"

and

\"I'm sorry if any of you are catholic. I'm not sorry if you're offended, I'm actually just sorry by the fact that you're catholic\"

I figure religion is like a big ball of clay in an art classroom..You all take a lump, mould it to how it suits you, some people make wonderous things, some just make a horrible mess, yet all begin with the same lump in the first place.

HAve a read of God Collar by Marcus Brigstocke.  Very funny and quite thought provoking.
