Got a Toshiba sattelite pro and I think the cooling fan has stopped working or jammed and my laptop overheats and shuts down within a few minutes, any advice folks?

take it apart and leave it for 48 hours, try that.
If not you will have to replace the fan... :(

I managed to poke something thin through the vents and un jammed the fan, then I got a hairdryer and blew it full blast through the vents, all is well now, I think a good blast with some compressed air will to the trick better, I think you can buy cans of compressed air, I might give that a go

You can get cans of compressed air but the prices vary from about 4 to about 15 quid and vary in quality as some spray a fair bit of liquid.
One of the better cheaper ones is sold in some asdas not terrifically powerful but does the job with a minimum of liquid, don't turn upside down and use though.
Maplins own brand is quite decent but at the upper end of the prices
yes a resident expert on air dusters you find it all on here

You should also get the hoover attachment against all the air vents on your laptop on a monthly basis. You'd be amazed at the amount of dead skin cells inside the average laptop, and it coats everything and acts like a layer of insulation.

And if you don't believe him have a shifty through this lot... it gets worse on every page!
