Just been put on the BBC website!
-
That was Saunders talking yesterday about the bid last week. Thought to be from Leicester.
-
We've rejected £2m from Leicester. http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/barnsley/doncaster_rebuff_2m_bid_from_leicester_for_sharp_1_4108402

If that article is true it puts to bed the £1.85M clause that was banded about!

The bottom line is this....
1) the club will listen to offers, but do not HAVE to sell. Only a silly money bid will get to stage 2.
2) the final decision will be Billy's. He is settled in the area, has had a personal tragedy and may not be interested in going too far (if at all).
Leicester is commutable, so I understand them taking a punt. I doubt he will go anywhere much further than that though.
-
The club is in a catch 22 situation though. Billy will leave at some point and it will be sooner rather than later. The club cannot afford to keep him as:
1. We cannot afford to give him an improved contract
2. We cannot afford to let him leave for free when his contract expires
The best we can hope for is Billy stays till the summer and then we will be forced to sell. He will be offered far more money than he is on here and probably his shot at the premiership which he craves and deserves where ever that may be?
-
With the Bramall Lane Mob pitching for a promotion push this year does anyone think he might wish to hang on until the end of the season when a return to his homeland might be feasible?

Not when the possibility of the Premiership looms.
-
How about he stays the season to keep us up. In turn, we allow him to leave in the summer for the bargain of £2m meaning more premiership clubs may take the chance on him.
Deal Billy???

Not as daft as it sounds, given that there's already something of a precedent: that suggestion has strong parallels with the deal that took Ian Snodin to Leeds.
Bremner cut a deal which kept Snods Jr with us till the season end as at the time we had a decent shot at getting promoted to the (old) Second Division. The sweetener for Leeds was that they then got to buy him for the previously agreed price of £200,000, far less than the resale price to Everton shortly afterwards of £930,000 (if my memory serves me correctly).
-
If he scores enough goals between now and the end of the season to keep us up he'll be worth a damn sight more than 2 million...that's the sickening point.
-
Yes but we will have stayed up and saved ourselves a lot more money!!!
What would you rather? Sell now for 3m and go down or sell in the summer for £2m and stay up.
I know what I would prefer and I could guess what the board would prefer.
Obviously the risk comes if he stays and we still go down but I honestly think we will stay up with him.
