Anyone know what the current situation there is? Was looking at booking a flight from there, but unless you want to go to Spain or Poland it seems as if there is no where to go.
After all the hype, it really does seem that the place is dying on its arse. Seems though the rumours that the owners just wanted to get their hands on the land could have some substance to it, and they have little plans to grow the airport.
I did know someone who worked at the airport, who has since been made redundant, and he has fears the place would never worked, even before the economy hit hard time.
-
It seemed busier than normal last night after dark, there must have been at least half a dozen aircraft land between 8-30pm and 11-30pm
-
Were you trying to hijack one?
-
its grim, tough times for a new airport! recession which hits the airindustry hard has'nt helped. If only we'd not had inquiry after inquiry before the place was allowed to open it might have had more than 18m to establish before the global downturn. They were optamistic and to be fair its a great asset in an area not over supplied with alternitaves?? I Think in reality it will be like every other airport and bumble alaong for decades before taking off.
Tehy staffed up to get the place running and with a view to yr on yr passanger number rises. Theres been plenty made redundent but core staff remain !!! its doing ok.. dosent help being run from Liverpool tho! they look after themselves first re new flights. we pick up the scraps (of which theres been none!!)
-
Anything in the pipeline auckley? Any hint of new routes?
-
like most things in this present climate. Money talks. Just booked a hol to Spain but did it all seperatley. Ryanair, tranfers, hotels, bargain. The same hol flying with Thomas Cook or Thomson and Robin Hoods surcharges(hidden) would have doubled the cost.
Will they learn ? Are they bothered ? I think Robin Hood or Peel or whoever they are charge the airlines too much so they go elsewhere
-
Robin hoods charges??? you dont pay them ! they get their money from the airlines and terminal tennants oh n the car park's a nice little earner!
you answered your own question, Ryanscare will always be cheaper than Thomson Thomas Cook.
Your thinking right tho book seperatly.
Mr frost only thing poss is more eastern euro with wizzy. (keep the place going) could do with Leeds Bradford going tits up!! :) not far from happening iv heard!
Leave it alone its a lovley quiet place to work!!!
The road next yr will help the push..
-
It is a shame. When easyjet started flying from there, things looked to be on the up with a good choice of flights. Since they have stopped it has all gone down hill. Hopefully things will look up over the next few years.
-
easyjet was a scam to get them out of a deal with liverpool quicker. Helped us tho as passanger numbers were very good!! no takers tho, been the same with Dublin and Amsterdam good numbers but no confidance to commit from airlines. Shame :(
Time and as daft as it sounds a sale / split from Peel will help .

I'm surprised Mick hasn't commented on this thread....it'll be the Council or Gordon Brown's fault no doubt

Doesn't a Canadian company have the majority of shares now? I wonder what their intentions are?

I would have preferred the short trip to Finningley rather than having to get up at 4.30am to drive over to Stockport this morning, I know that.
-
This is the issue. People WANT to use their local airport, but the routes aren't there. If I was a cynic, I would believe the owners don't have the slightest interest in the place and want to try and make money via other avenue's. Look what has happened to Teeside airport, owned by the same people. Liverpool is also on the decline, also owned by the same. Leeds, East Midlands etc seem to add new routes on a regular basis, and in the case of Leeds it is in a shocking location, and the inferstructure is poor.
Strange one.

Nope.
People WANT to use their local airport but it's more cost effective to fly from Manchester/East Midlands or any other airport, usually.

But is it? the cost of a taxi return to Manchester airport is around £120, yes flights may be cheaper but factor in travel costs to get there and I for one would sooner pay a bit more to fly from the local airport, plus the convenience as well

We are flying to Bulgaria end of June for 2 weeks with Balkan Holidays from Doncaster - no other airport was cheaper. (By the way Bulgaria aint in the Euro, bought 1400 Levs today for £600 and a Pint in Bulgaria is approx 1 Lev!).
Anyway, regarding Taxis, Im really struggling to get something sorted for 4 adults and 3 kids - seriously its looking hellish expensive, Im willing to pay someone £30.00 on the side if anyone has a suitable vehicle and they want to PM me (Bentley - Airport 28 June, Airport - Bentley 12 July).
-
Compitition loweres prices. we aint got any! Thomsun love us full flights a full price.
The land around it and all the buisness parks are owned by a sub branch Peel land. Thats were the money is!!! they need an airport here but their not airport people! would love it if they did the same as Teeside and sold it :) And boy do they own some land around this place.?!
Vancouver Air group bought 51% two yrs ago. Now called Vantage air group. They've had a shock!! the books were deffo cooked. Peel raped the airport site then Vancouver, and still have 49%?!?! nice work if you can get it.

Absolute bollo

Abolute b*llocks and as someone who claims to know something about the airport then why are your percentage of ownership so wide of the mark, interestingly nowhere on this thread have you mentioned anything of the good news that will be announced by the airport management in the next few weeks regarding cargo and improved commercial airline routes, regardless of the M18 link road that will create futher routes/cargo

That last part sounds interesting. Any further info?
-
Yargo, their the percentage figures im sure? will stand to be corrected tho. They feked them over tho? you agree on that??
The Freight deal /deals not firm yet? just looking good??? Commercial?? not a clue all i know is poss wizz additional but nothing firm?
-
I'd use it if I could get to where I need to be. My last flights were to Southampton for a meeting, flew down in the morning back in the evening from Leeds Bradford. I'd have loved to have gone from Doncaster and it would've been cheaper than driving to Leeds for the company (which takes an hour given its awful location) and the mileage isn't short.
Still was cheaper to drive to Leeds, fly to Southampton than to get the train, was quicker aswell which is just silly.

Any body noticed that Morrisons are building next to Band Q
looks like they have aready bought the Petrol Station down there and the store opens later this year.Wont be long before you can drive trhough to Tickhill road, through the new town they are gonna build on the rest of the land (pop 16,000).
Should be interesting times ahead for that eastern part of Doncaster with the Inland Port, FARRRS , the Power Stations at Hatfield plus Coal Gasification plant. we should see some new jobs in the town.

Thats why you`re struggling, you`re not prepared to pay the going rate, for a party of 7 people
Plus the fact that you are offering someone £30 on the side you are party to someone breaking the law, carrying passengers for hire or reward in an unlicensed vehicle, that probably would n`t be insured for the purpose and have no public liability. Do you really want to risk your kids lives in an un licenced un insured vehicle?
If you knew the costs involved in keeping a private hire vehicle on the road, you might appreciate why you can`t get a cab for the peanuts you`re willing to pay!

I understand what you're saying Filo it really has to be done to help you guys stay on the road you have to make money. But equally, you can understand why people do look for alternatives when the price is so high for a fairly short trip. It's neither your fault nor the person choosing an alternative.
I always find it a mixed bag with taxi drivers, some are really good, decent drivers, others are fairly risky, expensive and downright miserable.

Insurance alone is £2500-£3000 a year, fuel costs are rising all the time, I use £300 a week in Fuel and then DMBC want their licencing fees, take all that away and there`s not much left out of a weeks takings!

Exactly, it's not cheap and doesn't help you price competitively. But what would you do, pay £50 to a taxi driver or pay your mate £20? On the other side it's a no brainer really.

I hear what you`re saying and to some extent agree with you, however, given TWD`s high moral stance on many previous issues raised on this forum over the years, I`m some what surprised he is encouraging some one to break the law by using unlicenced private hire, maybe he`s high moral stance is not so high on issues that directly affect him?

Yargo, Wtf's your beef! in the know feking hope so its been my job to be for the last 7yrs. Do you mean the antanov coming for the next few weeks or the 747 3 times a week??
No games just pricks up my ears when this place is mentioned, You know what its like at wk, its much like the transfer season as in theres roumors, lies, fantasists and some truths in there, just saying what i think to be true? so bump this and say told ya so if it gets ya rocks off??

So if I pay someone to take me to the Airport who isnt a Taxi Driver Im breaking the law am I. As is stands our lass' Uncle, who live in Rossington is going to do two trips and do it for £20 and a couple of pouches of Tobacco from our trip....so sorted thanks.
Oh and he isnt a Taxi Driver, he works for YEDL, so don't worry your little head Filo Ok?

Hmmm Interesting. So if I give my mate a fiver for dropping me off somewhere, am I breaking the law also??

I`m not worrying my little head, I`m just pointing out that what you are doing is morally wrong, something you have done numerous times to others over the years, not so quick to take the moral high ground when it affects you are you?

There has been planning permission passed recently for a supermarket at that area, and plans for the through route are already in hand, but were dependent on the White Rose Way widening first.

I can't find anything relating to a new supermarket on the DMBC Planning portal, and who would build one there if they're going to open up the road to Woodfield Plantation where there's a huge Tesco?

Back to the airport. My friend booked a holiday from Donny next summer with Thomas Cook. He has been informed his holiday has been cancelled as they will no longer be operating the flights.
Had a scan of some airport forums (saaaaad) and it appears very much that the writing may be on the wall, as the main carrier at the airport (Thomson) seem to be slowly shifting flights to Leeds from next year.
I thought someone posted a hint of a revival on the cards? Doesn't sound like it to me!
