anyone read anything recently they can recommend? Looking for some books to take on holiday, prefer sporting autobiographys if anyone knows of any?
cheers

I look forward to some suggestions too please! I'm only interested in football related books, currently reading 'the legend of Billy Bremner' by Bernard Bale. Decent read and insight into his Billy's life but it's a bit too pacey and goes off track at times.
And yes before anyone says anything, i CAN read :p

Iv never been a big reader however i read Jeff Stellings book by the pool last year and read it in a day! Really entertaining.

Whats his book called? Always been told Steven Gerrard's autobiography is a good un but i've never sampled it myself. Think Sir Franny gets mentioned in that too.

I don't read but I enjoyed Roy Keane's biography.

Cheers, may have to invest in it! Love a bit of ol' Jeff Stelling.

I liked Gerrard's, I'd recommend it.

20 odd years old now but All Played Out by Pete Davies is THE best football book I've ever read. Even now it evokes that knot in the stomach feeling of England's run in Italia 90. And with hindsight, it was written at the crucial crossroads in football, just as the game was being re packaged up by the money men. You could still look at the likes of Lineker, Waddle, Pearce and Barnes as genuine good guy heroes in a way that you'd never class Cole, Terry, Rooney etc.

Quite old now, but Stuart Pearce's auobiography is a good one. Also don't know if you're into tennis but the Andre Agassi one (Open I think it's called) is amazing.

Fred Eyre wrote about three books probably in the early eighties. They are all very funny and as he started in the Man City youth team and then all over the bottom league and non-league you can associate with it.
Older Rovers fans will remember a lot of the players mentioned and he mentions a game at Belle Vue against Wigan when the St Johns Ambulance men dropped the Wigan player off the stretcher, twice I think. He said it was like something out of Benny Hill.
He made millions out of his office equipment business in the end but a thoroughly good read.

Try and get hold of " The greatest player you never saw- The Robin Friday story " I read a lot sporting books and its one of the best

Damned Utd. Is the best football book I have read. You really get inside the mind of the main character

Top book, as was his book on the Belles. I may be setting myself up for an absolute "Sheff Utd" moment here, but you don't hear much from him anymore and wiki isn't my friend on him.
As mentioned above, the Jeff Stelling one is great, as is most stuff by Simon Kuper (check out "Why England Lose" in particular if you like detailed analysis/soccernomics).
I'm halfway through Robert Enke's biography although its probably not chilled holiday reading material.
On other sports I've just read Sean Long's autobiography, very light hearted and one you can pick up and put down without worrying about remembering what you'd just read. I'm also partway through "Bounce" by former world table tennis champ Matthew Syed - its blowing my mind on the old "nature vs nuture" debate.

If you like cricket, Steve Waugh's auto biography was a great read. Also enjoyed Justin Langer Andrew Stauss and Adam Gilchrists. Avoid Graham Thorpes!
Football, not read a good one for a long time. Damned United is very good. Would like to have a look at Robbie Savage and Ian Holloways though.

Just started Ian Snodin's "Snod This For A Laugh"

Depends if you regard climbing as a sport, but either 'Touching the Void', or 'This Game Of Ghosts' by Joe Simpson.
Possibly not holiday reads, but gripping.

Sammy Chung.....i got your message about the books but cant reply as you have blocked me.
cheers
