This leaves a very bad taste in the mouth for me. A bit like a youngster leaving a BBC dressing room with a 'Jim licked it for me' badge on.

free hi tech security for his house
car allowance
free accountants (why does he need this so badly anyway.....something to hide Arthur?)
All the above during his tenure is bad enough, but to have it for life and then be able to pass it on to any widow he leaves for their lifetimes
Forget the should he be able to keep it until death argument (which in fairness is costing the current NUM members (now totaling 2000 and not the then 200,000) £20 each out of their monthly wages), this is more deep rooted.
Why does a man with such so called working class values and social injust morals want a City of London flat, amongst all the other perks. Why did he want it in the first place when he was in the NUM post at the height of it's power. I know he will cite his predecessor, but all that he preached now contradicts everything.

Big fan of Arthur or at least his arguments at the time.It was important to get behind him for solidarity but his credibility was always flawed by the paradox between his lifestyle and values .You may not agree but the Militant got it right at the time with the slogan of a workers representative on a workers wage.

Yes DP. But his total tactical ineptitude, his style of rant and his inability to ever consider consequences made him utterly unfit to lead anything or anybody. Joe Gormley was turning in his grave. He was. I heard him.

Of course he's got something to hide...all the hundreds of thousands of pounds in donations from overseas during the strike that 'disappeared' for a start.
He isn't just screwing the miners now, he was doing it all through the strike itself.
