More Census info out today.
93.8% of Doncaster's population are from the UK.
1.&% from the Middle East and Asia.
1.6% from Poland.
Interestingly, after Ealing and Slough, Boston has the largest concentration of Polish residents in the country.
-
Puts all those comments that 10% of people in Donny are Poles to bed then.
-
Thats just from the people that actually filled the census in ;)

You mean the people that are legally here, the illegal ones won`t have had a census form to fill in
-
I didn't fill it in. Forgot all about it.

I don't live in Doncaster, but I got the impression, reading posts on here over the years, that there are a heck of a lot of Poles in Doncaster. The Census suggests that, on Census Day 2011, there were just under 5,000 residing in the Borough.
ONS expects a proportion of people not to fill the Census in, and does adjust the results to reflect this fact, so the results are pretty accurate.
-
I think many folk assume everyone over here is Polish, when infact we have a few other Eastern Euro folk. I would guess (and I haven't seen the census) we have more than 5k Eastern Europeans. I'm more surprised at the 1.8 Middle East and Asian figures.
Have you got a link LJ, sounds an interesting read

Stats available from www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/census/2011-census/key-statistics-for-local-authorities-in-england-and-wales/rft-table-qs203ew.xls (http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/census/2011-census/key-statistics-for-local-authorities-in-england-and-wales/rft-table-qs203ew.xls)
There are more Scots than Poles in Doncaster.
If we consider the 2001-2011 Accession Countries as "Eastern European", there were a total of 6,646 residing in Doncaster in 2011.

There are as you say quite a few Lithuanians and from the other Baltic States Latvians and Estonians in lesser numbers

Not too many Lithuanians - 336. In fact, there are more people from Hong Kong and from South Africa than there are from Lithuania. However there are a total of 116 Romanians plus 1,498 from other accession countries.

The illegal immigrant numbers thing is interesting. A lot of people believe that we are drowning in them, and of course they won't show up in the census figures.
Only data I'm aware of came from figures released by the Met Police earlier this year. They kept a record of the immigration status of everyone arrested in a certain period. Of about 25,000 arrests, less than 0.6% were found to be illegal immigrants. That suggests that there are about 50,000 illegal immigrants in London as a whole. And since previous research suggests that the vast majority of illegal immigrants bed down on London (black economy work opportunities, large ethnic populations to lose themselves in) the best guess is that there are maybe 70,000 illegal immigrants in the country in total. Perhaps 1 person in every 8-900.
So, either there really aren't that many illegal immigrant here, or they are very, very good at behaving themselves - much better than the "indigenous" population.

Did you get fined for it? If you did not get fined, then why not join the VSC (especially since you have made over 4k posts) to clear your conscience :-)

Excellent Post Nathan. It's been a long time since we've had a Frosty v VSC thread. I'm surprised we've not had a repost yet from him. Let me reply on his behalf
I was just contemplating joining, but now you've posted that Nathan, I refuse to join. I'm not being bullied into joining by members and directors.
or
That's not the right attitude to recruit new members, and I was contemplating joining too
or
I've previously offered my services creating a new forum website, but you can all shove it now
Come on Frosty, give em hell. Imagine you're Bill Murray in scrooged. Let em have it

They've changed it to having a display picture if you're in and not one if you're not.

Now you mention it, so have I  I saw SM post about it and I'd assumed they'd already put that in place.

302,000 people in the borough and we struggle to get 3% of that at the Keepmoat. :(

That borough figure is misleading though. You can live in the borough of Doncaster and have a Sheffield postcode or a Rotherham dialing code and probably the KM isn't the closest ground for a lot of these folk in the extremities of the borough. I haven't seen those census figures but a while ago wiki would list the urban population of the "town" of Doncaster as around 110k.
-
It depends how you define the "town" of Doncaster. If you don't take the "metropolitan borough" definition, then how you define it can become quite subjective.

Postcodes and dialling code areas have bugger all to do with it.

They do, I live in the Boro of Doncaster pay my council tax to Doncaster etc but have a Rotherham phone number and a Doncaster postcode along with many others
-
Equally there will be people outside of the Borough, not included in Census population estimates, who would consider Doncaster to be their local team. The Bassetlaw district for example.
-
Depends doesn't it. If you live in say Adwick, you wouldn't be counted in the urban population for the town of Doncaster, only in the Borough population.
However if you asked someone from Adwick which town they come from, the answer would be Doncaster.
-
Excuse my stupidity, but where can i find the census results? Cheers

So what? The Post Office and British Telecom service areas have absolutely nothing to do with town or county borders.

I expect 90% of the metropolitan borough class Rovers as their local team if you look at what the borough includes. Then like as L J Monk said their is other surrounding areas that count Rovers as their local club too. It's still at the end of the day around the 300,000 figure.

There is a Polish restaurant and a couple of Polish bakaries in Donny now. There must be a fair few poles about. Not only new comers, there were quite a few during the war too.
We don't have Scots restaurants mind.
-
Poles are everywhere Don. There's a bloody good Polish food shop at the bottom end of Old Town in Swindon for example. And there's Polish restaurants about too. Even Tesco down here have a decent size Polish section.
Cheers
