Sadly I do too, here we have another George Best scenario...........such a shame and waste of superb talent. Hurricane Higgins springs to mind too sadly :(

I think it's much more than alchoholism, I think he is mentally ill as well which is gonna make his drinking even worse. A bit different to George Best.

True but all 3 had serious flaws in their personalities which detracted from the immense talent that all 3 had. I suppose Best managed to live the 'champagne' life but must have been seriously flawed to throw away the opportunity of being able to live longer with a 2nd liver. Believe me to chuck away a chance like that is a serious flaw despite all the good things he previously had in his life.

If people have addictions like Gazza it's not easy for them to just stop, couple this with mental illness and you are in trouble. He was on the waggon for a long time but something has obviously happened to start him off boozing again. And as everyone knows once he starts he's back to square one again.

I recall When Gazza turned out for rovers against Barnsley in aid Of former donny keeper Paul Malcom.
Iam sure it was s matter Of days before Gazza was on national service under bobby robson in italy for the world cup.
At some stage in the game,the rovers keeper launched the ball out his hands via a goalkick.
As ball is hurtling thro the air Gazza is shouting to ALL players in middle Of park to stand still as he is making a no mans land for himself.
Now as the ball hits the deck Gazza kills the ball dead,but not via the normall method as in a foot trap or with knee,Chest
Gazza kills the ball with his backside as he just traps the ball by sitting on it.
All the ground went quite,ALL the players were Stood open mouthed and Even ref was gob smacked.
I just have This picture in me head Of Gazza sat on the ball after trapping it dead and time stopping untill ref,woke up from his personal trance to wave the game on.
Is was only a matter Of days before Gazza was in italy on England duty

No-one is being malicious in their observations Gaz, all have recognised his immense talent and you getting uppity about a standard 'waste of space' comment never helps this sort of person. The very fact that folk pampered to his whims, encouraged/were complicit with his drinking binges rather than helping or recognising his difficulties is where the real fault lies.
Perhaps if folk (so called friends) had sought help for him a lot earlier and where necessary been more assertive with him then his behaviour may have been corrected. Pure adulation from the world at large and more especially his drinking buddies has exasperated this further.

If you have read his autobiography then he does have major issues after seeing one of his best mates run over and killed when he was a youngster.

Seem to recall Gazza Stuffing the match ball up his shirt to prevent a penalty Been taken?just Cant recall if it was a rovers or Barnsley spot kick

never seen any one like him with a ball, he asked Barnsleys keeper where he wanted the penalty and put it just there, still scoring. and then scored with that flick over his own head and apologised to keeper for making him look daft ,fine line between genius and madness as they say

I remember that, but I thought it was Billy Bremner who launched a pass from the left back position (main stand side) over to Gazza who was on the half way line on the Popside and then Gazza trapped the ball by sitting on it.

90% of every football kit i've ever owned, i still have. The only one i'm still pissed off about not having still, is my pride and joy Everton home shirt with 'Gazza' on the back! Didn't speak to my mum for a few week after i knew she'd got rid of it :thumbdown:
Like any public figure with an addiction... He needs a new set of 'mates' and to get rid of the hangers on! They aren't helping him live, they are helping him die! He's like a performing animal at a circus and his 'mates' and agent are prodding him with a stick, to 'perform'. Tossers.
I'd f*cking stand for a full day, if i knew it'd get him off the booze, but it wont unfortunately. He's on his way out :(

The amount of times I've tried recreating his goal at Euro 96 though and ended up looking like more Hendry rather than Gazza. Best England goal. EVER. :woohoo:

My memory says it was Bremner who launched that pass that Gazza sat on. Corner of the penalty area at the Golf Club/Main Stand side, to the half-way line flag on the Pop Side. f***ing superb pass in its own right before Gazza controlled it with his gluteus maximus.
And I've also got it in me head that he was having the craic with the Pop Siders, back to the pitch, supping a tinny that someone had passed him before the pass came his way and someone shouted "Gazza! Behind thi!". And after he'd controlled the ball and passed it on, he picked the tinny up and carried on supping.
Probably my memory gilding the lily, but he DEFINITELY had a tinny/Pop Side moment during that match. Seemed funny at the time.
Seems tragic now.
My Godfather was centre forrad for the Wensdeh in the late 60s/early 70s. Similar piss-head to Gazza. Proper laugh-a-minute, Jack-the-Lad when he was playing. Fans hero - first to the bar after the match.
He died of liver failure at 57 a few years back, supping himsen to death after he finished playing.
