I agree about the 4-3-3. We went back to an old-school 4-4-2 yesterday and allowed Walsall to dominate midfield in the second half.

However, I think it is time to stop pussyfooting about and get one or even two central midfielders in on loan. Syers and Keegan are fine, but Harper is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike and it is clear that Fowler might like passing the ball but doesn't like getting his shorts dirty.

Unless we do that, I think we can forget about promotion-automatic or play offs- because teams have worked us out now.

Agree with the 4-3-3 but would probably only work with Keegan as a holding midfielder and would probably start with Paynter instead of Brown both work equally as hard but Paynter always seems more likely to score.

On the performance yesterday it showed that after Keegan went off we lost the centre of midfield. I am not saying Keegan is brilliant but he does the hard work in midfield, which Harper and Fowler does not  want or are not able to do.
If Syers and Keegan are not available for Tuesday then we have to be looking at loans. If JR and the manager want top spot then we must look at this. Saying that we had enough chances in the first half and second half last week to have won both games. It was said goals to chances was good yet over the last two games this is not true.

how can people not play paynter?!?!

Easy, he contributes hardly anything. Doesn't work hard doesn't hold the ball up, doesn't bring people into play.
At the minute brown looks twice the player paynter does, infact paynter in my opinion has had one good game and that was against sheff u.

Brown & Paynter are very Similair & don't work we'll together on Tues I'd start with Brown up front and play Bennett n Cotts on the wing & Copps in the hole

Your are taking the piss Norfolk. Bennett would struggle to get a place on the wing let alone as a centre forward.

There was a reason why Dean Saunders didn't play him down the middle.
He can't finish for toffee; even in training.

I'd give him a go in a 5 man midfield (supporting Brown) though
Bennett
Woods
Fowler
Keegan (if fit)
Cotterill

what about Jordan Ball  we need pace up front Lee Fowler was told to play at the back Harper was the attacking midfielder( he  does not  chase just sits ) I would drop Mccoombe  and play Tommy Spurr in his place and fetch James Husband in Tommy Spurrs place and put Robbie Blake on instead of James Harper

I can't believe you managed to work the words "pace", "Robbie" and "Blake" in to the same paragraph.
That was last acheived in 1998 :)

You win today's prize, well done!!

Oops, I forgot about Copps

Mmm, re-think.

Ok, 5 man midfield with Copps/Brown up top.
Just hope the ref doesn't realise we've got 12 men on the pitch!!

Copps. First name on team sheet. Superb player. Streets ahead of any player in this league. Great tipster too.

Am I alone in thinking that up until 40 minutes things weren't that bad on Saturday. With a decent run of the ball we could have been 3-1 or 4-1 up at half time. Even after the break we created more than enough to win it comfortably.
Don't Panic

I'm in two minds here. I would like to see the full DVD of the game to be honest.
I felt if we'd got the penalty shout to lead 2-1, then the game would've opened up even more and could've finished 4-3 either way!

I thought Woods made a couple of more saves (4) than their keeper (2), so if we take all ours we win 3-2, but if they took theirs, then it's an embarrassment.

Thought we were great too be honest in first half against an excellent Walsall team

                                                 Keegan          Fowler

                            Bennett              Cotterill                        M.Woods

                                                         Brown

Subs Coppinger,Sinclair,Harper,McCombe, plus whoever else is fit,for this team has got balance, durability, and a bit of flair,i think Spurr at centre back would give a bit more stability,i'd start with Kyle and if he didn't perform,Coppinger would come on soon after half time,Cotterill would cause more problems just behind Brown, rather than just going with two up front,Paynter wouldn't offer as much,i'd put Fowler in,even though i said persevere with him a bit longer,in another post,i think Fowler may link things up a bit, with Keegan destroying at the side of him, this side would get a good result against MK Dons.

I like the thought of having more bodies up and around the main striker but you can't drop Copps. He was our main man in the first half against Walsall.

I agree with Andysly above - with a bit of luck we could easily have scored 2 or 3 in the first half - and were very unlucky that the great shot in the second hit the bar.  All our problems started when Keegan went off - they took control of midfield and Harper never looked good enough to be on the pitch.

Is Hume still injured? Because if not then this would be my team.

Woods

Quinn
Jones
Spurr
Husband

Keegan
Copps
Cotterill

Hume
Paynter
Brown

I know all 3 strikers are on but Hume creates quite a lot from midfield to strikers and adds extra fire power along side Paynter and Brown.

True you do have a point but a think we need a more attacking mentality this game. Just my own view that's all.

MK Dons have some good midfielders though (although i don't know how many are available for Tues...) so think it'd be suicide to play with just the one central midfielder.

Pack the midfield imo.

WIth two unfit players Fowler / Harper and two injuried Syers and Keegan.

Smashing crosser of the ball.

He was dreadful at CM early on in season

His best spell and when he was captain for us was at CM. This season he was easing back into fitness when playing at Cm and then placed on the wing so wherever he had played he would have done well. He can still cross from CM

Or was it just that he was getting fitter? Because before he got injured he only played cm in a midfield 5 and was very good IMO. Plus he adds balance being left footed and also added energy that we lack when Syers doesn't play

Cant beleive he will start harper so maybe we will find out.

Off course you could say Fowler and Woods are too simular too?

No real presser or a player that will break up play?

I seem to recall that Coppinger played central midfield in a pre season game, and looked pretty comfortable there as well, he might be able to play a Syers type of roll with the added gulle to throw in as well
