Post by: Bentley Bullet on February 20, 2013, 02:03:48 pm
OK select your prediction for Rovers v Yeovil on Saturday, just stating win, lose or draw.

Those with the correct forecasts get the chance to predict the outcome of the next match, and so on until we have a winner!

Seeing as it's my idea, I'll start!

Rovers will.........WIN

Not a pessimist, but I honestly think we'll lose. It's Yeovil.

Though I hope the optimists win and go on to play the pragmatists in the semi-final.

Yeovil to win.  :boxing:

Players coming back from injury, loan signings in. It's time we beat Yeovil. It's 4 games since we've had a win in the league.

Perhaps we're due a win.

Edit: I wouldn't put money on it though.

Unfortunatley there on fire and we never beat them even when they arent on form so I cant see beyond a Yeovil win with them picking up points left right and centre.

We played them on the exact date 11 years ago at BV in a fourth round FA trophy match thay Yeovil won 5-4 and went on to win the trophy. I am not looking forward to it...

That said, we were the first side to beat Tranmere at Prenton Park for nigh on a year. Didn't we end someone else's run of some sort this season too?
Title: Re: Pessimists v Optimists
Post by: Mr1Croft on February 20, 2013, 11:06:10 pm
Maybe, although I'm not sure but everything for me is pointing to a bad day for the Rovers. A) It's Yeovil B)They are on a good run. C) We are at home. D) It's Yeovil E)Hayter has netted 10 times for them this season in the league and Madden has found the back of the net 18 times so 28 goals from their 2 strikers after 32 games is a good return. F) It's Yeovil...

 :coat:

EDIT: Just checked and Madden has scored 17 for the Glovers (one was for Carlisle) but he has done it in only 22 games which is very, very impressive...

Was that the game where we chucked away a 3-0 lead? I was there that day. Great, now I'll be bricking it even if we're battering them.

For some reason I remembered us being 4-0 up, but now you mention it 3-0 sounds about right, as I say even when they were dire (both games in 2007 at KMS) we couldn't beat them so I don't fancy our chances. But hey fingers crossed...

We haven't beat Yeovil since the 2003/2004 season (albeit that one was away).

I do like the look of that Lundstram kid though, and if we can get that Furman on board and get a few of our injuries sorted, then who knows?

Gonna go out on a limb, and say win!

PS, if we can do the glovers, I reckon we'll win the league!   :scarf:

Pessimists v Optimists Match Report

On paper looks to be a bit of a mis-match, however we asked both sides for their predictions and unsurprisingly everyone went for a score of Pessimists - 0 Optimists - 15.

The pessimists almost didn’t turn up as they didn’t think they had a chance and the optimists stopped off for a pint before the game as it was obviously gonna be soooooo easy.

The pessimists played a defensive 8-1-1 formation with the optimists opting for an adventurous  1-1-8 attacking line-up.
The first half was a bit of a scrum with all 22 players in one penalty area for long periods. At the break it was goal-less although the Pessimists thought that they had not done enough to get nil and the optimists just knew that it would all come good in the second half.

The Pessimists manager (Mr O’Driscoll) made some tactical changes and replaced his one forward player with a defensive midfielder, whereas the Optimists manager (Mr Ryan) went for broke and sacrificed his one man defence for a run-back goalie.
The second half adopted a similar pattern with the optimists appealing for 27 penalties, all of which were turned down by the referee Mr Kettle. The pessimists retreated that far back that they were all stood on the goal line but the optimists still could not force the ball over the line.

Final score Pessimists 0 – Optimists 0

I was so convinced of 1-1 draw I had £25 at 6/1! And would have given it all for a 2nd half winner! Thought we were going to do it but were unlucky, 2 open goals and a barn door penalty! Anyway, on to Shrewsbury -

I don't think it will be an easy game at all - saw Shrews on FL show and they showed some fight. Even so, I hope we've turned the corner and got our confidence back so going for a 2-1 WIN for Rovers. Come on!!

Just 3 entrants left now, well done to Lincs Rover, Rover 19 and Spud.

Looking forward to seeing your forecasts for Saturdays visit of Hartlepool.

I am very indecisive about Saturday and want to get carried away on the tide of excitement and expectation, but, having been a rovers fan for nearly all of my 48years I know we never do things easily! My first thought was a 2-0 win for rovers and I will put my money on it (being in front with good bets on 1-1 and 1-2 in last 2 matches!). However, my optimistic pessimism, combined with the way the table is going this year - every team that gets to the top automatically throws away the next game to surrender top - and that both Rover 19 & Spud have gone for a win I've decided to bow to my pessimistic side and go for a DRAW.

Having said that, I hope that Rover 19 and Spud are are correct and fight out the final in the Bournemouth game!!!!

Good luck boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :clapping:

And then there were two.....

Unlucky LincsRover (that is if you call 3rd place unlucky!)

The last two remaining contestants, Rover 19, and Spud now go head to head in Tuesday's game at MK Dons to be the inaugural prediction champion!

Good luck guys!!!

I should have gone with my optimistic side but not in the least bit disappointed - as I said I would happily be out of this and settle for a win  :woohoo:

 :rtid:

Good luck to Rover 19 & Spud

MK are a decent side whose luck is due to change. However as everything seems to be clicking for us at the minute i think they'll have to wait a little longer.

Rovers win.

Well well well that was a shock to the system wasn't it!

All that and no outright winner.

Anyone interested in having another contest starting at Bournemouth on Saturday, or is the pain still too much to bare?

Yeah, after my 3rd place - I'm up for it! I'm afraid it's also a lose for me - can't see us improving enough to beat Bournemouth at their place after the debacle that was Tuesday night, esp with Jones, Syers, Keegan etc... all out!.  As always would be over the moon if I'm wrong - a draw would be good!

And yes, if we find out if Harpers playing before we post it would make the decision 100% easier!

Hartlepool were as crap a team as we'll see this season. We flattered ourselves.

As for Bournemouth. We are in BIG trouble. I usually back new managers - like I did Saunders - but every time I watch Rovers since our "first choice, plan A" turned up it's been pretty clueless stuff. I hope to god I'm wrong (again).

Bournemouth will chew Rovers up and spit them out.

What else could I say apart from another WIN? I actually can't sleep because I've got such a good feeling about Rovers right now. I'm texting anyone who'll listen about how satisfying today was and how good it feels to be clear at the top. Tuesday can't come fast enough.

Another win and another game down on Tuesday. Cannot wait. Days like this remind you why you love Rovers.
