Title: Sheff Utd v Brentford
Post by: MrFrost on April 16, 2013, 01:17:04 pm
So what result do we want?

I'm going for a Sheff Utd win.

Likewise please, anything other than a Brentford win would do nicely.

It doesn't really matter if we don't win on Sat, but for what it's worth I'll go for a Blades win.  Simply because they have more games left in which to drop points than Brentford do, and also our result vs Brentford may only be important for the championship and not promotion.

If I have got it right, Should Sheff Utd win tonight, and we win on saturday, Sheff Utd would have to win all their remaining games (including saturday) to overtake us?
Title: Re: Sheff Utd v Brentford
Post by: IDM on April 16, 2013, 01:22:28 pm
Yes - they would get 85 by winning all.  If we win on Sat we have 84, so even a draw for the Blades is not enough should we win.

A draw fro Brentford however would mean they can get 84, including if they beat us, then it's down to goal difference - which is why I'm calling for a Blades win tonight, followed by a draw on Sat ;)

A heated match that results in many injuries, many fights and see not only suspensions but also point deductions for both clubs.

I'd like a Sheff U win too tonight, completley knocking Brentford out of the equation providing we win on Saturday.

From this I cant see Sheff U winning ALL of their remaining fixtures so hopefully that side should take care of itself.

I've got a funny feeling Bournemouth wont win on Saturday too  ;)

Apparently Sheff U v Bees is being televised Live on Norwegian TV (TV2 Sport Extra), so if your local boozer has got a hooky satellite dish*, you can see for yourselves what you're up against.

* - Not that I condone such piracy. Oh no, not at all.

In terms of this match, of course it is. It cuts our lead over 3rd place to two points, while Utd can still catch us as well. I think of the three outcomes from this match Brentford winning is the least favoured by a mile?

I can well see either Brentford or Bournemouth, or both of them dropping points this coming weekend and if so it puts a totally different slant on the final games. It is however imperative that we beat Notts County.

This is a fair point but I'd rather have a bit of a cushion and potentially get promoted in front of our own fans. Don't think I can take another Cheltenham scenario!

Well whatever happens tonight, we are looking at 85points as being the benchmark as I don't see Bournemouth losing their last 2 matches. With their goal difference our minimum requirement is also our maximum................. 6 points! unless of course Brentford and Blades drop points which could mean a win on Saturday would be enough for 2nd place.
I would much rather see a draw tonight

Brentford could then only get 83 points maximum, even with beating us.  We will be on 84 if we beat Notts Co.  Utd could finish on 85 but only if they win all 3 remaining fixtures, more chance for them to drop points than Brentford.  Also we'd rely less on Bournemouth slipping up, who can also get 85.

So a Sheff Utd win tonight is best for us.

Interesing Brentford play at 5:20 on Saturday so unless Bournemouth lose we can't be promoted during our game but could potentially be afterwards.

"Knackered"?

We don't do "knackered", we're The Undead.

Why only last week, Uwe decided to try a little experiment, taking Clayton Donaldson down to the local crossroads at midnight, and burying him in a 10 foot grave with a wreath of garlic round his neck and a wooden stake through his heart.

By the time he got back to his car, Clayton was already sat in the passenger seat, sucking a boiled sweet...  ;)

P.S. Countdown to Griffin Park:

Stiil, the good news is you've just about done for the Blades and their silly hopes about auto.  They haven't won 3 on the trot for aeons. In fact they hardly ever win at all these days. Just occasionally - to keep them interested. Arf arf arf.

I tried my hardest to support them for the night as it may have been the better result for us, I just couldn't do it though and was chuffed when Brentford equalised.

A work 'colleague' of mine was telling me all day that the Blades would win ALL of their remaining games, it's maybe time to start implementing the random drug and alcohol tests     :silly:

I was a full Blades fan for the night, me. It was like an out of body experience, I was gutted when that equaliser went in. I was kicking every ball and loved every second of the commentary on the radio.

A lot of that probably comes from the fact that it's a once-in-a-decade sort of game, mind you.
