Been wondering, why is it called Lucky Pint?
-
Before the lucky pint came to be, a few of use used to use Yahoo messenger to interact during commentaries of the games, often someone would comment that they are pouring another drink for themselves and at the same moment Rovers would score a goal, when we were struggling in games we would try a lucky pint to try and buy us a goal, it worked on a few occasions hense the Yahoo messenger chat became the Lucky Pint
-
Haha, that was me. It used to be uncanny - every time I used to come downstairs to get a beer from the fridge the Rovers would score. When we were struggling the shout used to go up for me to get a round in. We started to experiment to see if cider was better than lager or bitter. The tests were inconclusive! Anyhow that's how the lucky pint was born!

Well! , I'm the one responsible for the Hayter goal at Wembley then, I was in the queue for coffee when the roof above me nearly caved in. I had to wait until I got home to see what the fuss was all about! Lucky coffee.

And Bradders was the Rovers Commentator..."tippy tappy football ROVERS'
Those were the days !
-
Aye. That wonderful commentary that consisted of a series of "ooh...its...aah...Rovers have...oh...and they've...aargh..."
It always left you wondering whether we'd scored or conceded a throw-in on the half way line. I used to love the passion that came through in that.
Of course, the commentary is much better now that we know what's actually going on.

Aye.... I coined the name Lucky Pint. Guinness was the drink of choice. Peebs was usually on kitchen duties as well. Slam in the lamb.

Up in Gilroy...

Up in Peebles :scarf:
-
We used to run a tidy virtual bar and kitchen Marky!!
-
We did indeed. Cleanest pipes and best pub grub one could virtually want.
Up in Portland!
-
I remember some pretty dubious activities with yahoo messenger, two or three microphones and Roversplayer too !
-
Good fun the old yahoo lucky pint
-
We should resurrect it.
-
If I remember rightly Mark, it was you and I that experimented on streaming audio over Yahoo messenger, and it worked a treat
-
I remember Mark having the keys and turning up late one saturday.....
-

The Mexican wave did make me laugh👋
-
Fvck me, reading this thread has become liek a "Drunken Bakers" cartoon in Viz. Shambling through recollections of times gone through a haze of booze!
-

We both had a go. If you liked 80s pop then it was great! :)

It was definitely "of its time". Feels a bit old fashioned now strangely.

On that theme, how old does something have to be before one can call reflecting on it "nostalgia"?
I had a glance at some archives of the old Rovers bulletin board from the late 90's (I suppose it would be a forum these days) a while back and came over all sentimental.

Nothing wrong with coming over all sentimental.
Post a link Mike.

I'll see if I can find it again.

Is there a way to do it now? Skype or something? It'd be better than forking out for the player.
-
Loose lips sink ships...
-
Get shelled out for Player! Nowt to stop folks jumping on Yahoo or Skype to discuss and have banter...

Also nowt to stop people turning their player up loud whilst skyping

No chance. I've bought a few books on searching for blokes in red and white hooped shirts, its hopeless I tell you.
Player is ace, always has been, always will be, I'll hear nothing less. I'm currently following the Belles on twitter #DRBLFC - 0-0 half time at Lincoln... or Nottingham?
