"Forget that the financial offer in itself was quite poor, but I would have been taking three steps backwards in my development as a professional coach if I had gone.
"I walked out of that meeting with the club's board and football director Dave Bassett, and said 'wow'. It just blew me away.
"Being one of the bigger lower league clubs, I was expecting a lot more in terms of how they wanted to develop as a club on the field.
"But they just didn't seem interested when I was talking about playing a short passing game and taking the football another level up. It was about smashing the ball long and working on set-pieces.
"It was prehistoric stuff. That's not the way to develop a football team

They need to get Saunders on board he sounds like what they are looking for :rtid:
-
Ha ha this gets better by the week. Is there anybody left to reject them?
-
Oh dear
-
Joking aside, this is a side with a great catchment and a very solid underlying fan base.
I'm no lover of the Blades but how does this happen ? The strategy / vision is surely set at Board level so some re-engineering at that level is required.
Bertie Bassett; give me strength.
There are a cart load of highly respected football people who would surely jump at the chance to re-build the culture and style from DOF level.
-
This is hilarious!

This made me lol:

That's because good football is beyond them...

Just how many times must Sheff U ''lose their appeal'' ?
-
It almost reads like it's a wind up doesn't it? Surely no club today could either have opinions like those in the article, or, allow any interviewee free reign with his gob after being interviewed? Has anyone actually ever heard of this bloke? Is he real? Is he looking for another job? In England? How often do Sky publish rubbish?
Cheers

Christ it says it all if they're having to interview people working in Australia..
-
It's got to be a windup, Bob. And Sky have fallen for it hook line and sinker.
-
Tbh, I'm expecting SkySports publishing an apology in the morning.
-
You have to admit that McCabe cannot pick a manager though. He ought to ask JR for some advise.
-
I hope he doesn't Dadsley! It's quite entertaining watching. If I were him right now, whether the story is true or not, I'd be demanding an apology from Sky. He really can't let stories like that go unchallenged - even if they're true.

Edit: Actually, it's not so hard to fool the press. Some of the now older ones amongst you might just remember the 'BSTR Consortium' which, apparently, was looking to take over the Rovers back in the Richardson era. Well, that was a total wind up from start to finish. Aimed at one particular journo actually. And he fell for it hook, line and sinker.
'BSTR' stood for 'Bob, Steve, Tom and Richard' btw. All fine, upstanding and relatively impecunious Rovers supporters.
-
No it's not a wind-up Bob. You might not have heard of him but Sheff U have links with clubs in various countries and Arnold is the manager of their Australian 'sister' club. Whats the betting that whoever is in charge of Chengdu Blades FC or White Star Woluwe will be the next to get that call.

Discussion in the office this morning about this revealed he asked for £500k a year wages, and the Blades said no.

Well bugger me.... If it's real, well it's real. But really....! They're mad letting a story like that get out.
By the by, why did they refuse him when he asked for half a million? They are a big club you know. That's not such a bad rate for a big club surely?
Cheers

Come on lads, time to come clean, which of you is responsible for this?
It's far too funny for an Owl to have thought up, and surely too sad to be true?

This is why no one wants the job
