Title: Positive and negative from the Dickov meeting...
Post by: Red Rover on June 06, 2013, 11:59:41 pm
POSITIVE

Q: Will you be looking to formulate a particular style of play?
PD: I’m a big believer that to go out and win games you have to have a philosophy and you have to carry that philosophy through. I want to play football, I’m not a believer in the long ball game it’s horrible to watch; as fans, players and mangers it’s not enjoyable to be involved in.

Thank god it won't be Saunders awful HOOF football.

NEGATIVE

Q: Do you intend to live in the Doncaster area?
PD: I will be staying over a few nights a week.

Doesn't sound like he's gonna be living around the place, IMO I feel it's probably better being closer and keeping an eye on players/situations. Whilst the boss is away etc...

I agree with the concerns over the negative and that what makes me wonder about him being a bit 'hands off' when he leaves the some of the day to day stuff to others,

If he's had said, I need to be here 5 days a week to start off with, then I'd be more encouraged. One the other hand if he has Rob Jones and A N Other overseeing things then we should be in safe hands.

I didnt read too much into that.  The club have access to a number of "pads" in the town, so PD will have somewhere to crash.

Lets assume he is here doing the post match stuff, so say Monday (stop over), Tuesday, (stop over), Wednesday (go home), then back Friday (stop over), Saturday, I'm sure Rob Jones and Brian Flynn will ensure continuity with the lads in the interim, plus what I gather of PD, dont think for a moment that not being here doesnt mean he isnt working,

He also said he only lives an hour or so away. I'm pretty sure players live just as far away and get in every day and I seem to recall someone mentioning Flynn lives around the Burnley area and he was there. This is a none issue. People read into things far too easily.

My big problem is , are they going to put sub titles on the player interviews. I switched the first part of the fans meeting off, because I had no idea what was being said by PD.

Anybody else have the same problem?

I thought he spoke clearly. Though I did grow up in Scotland and have a Scottish family.

On him not living here that's noissue to me. These days lots of people commute.

He only lives in Cheshire a commute that many make one way or t'other on a daily basis. It's better for him and us that he is happy where he lives.

He lives more than an hour away if he lives next door to JR.

Isn't the pre match press conference usually held on a Thursday?

Still, he will be staying over a couple of nights a week but probably still at Cantley Park or the KMS every day just commuting. Not really an issue.

It currently is, but I'm guessing that its not set in stone anywhere.  Anyway, I was only offering a proposed solution there.  Its not like I have access to his Outlook calendar or owt.

We do have an airport and jr's back yard is big enough for a helicopter so they could travel together and pick up some players on the way maybe ;-)

Can't say I ever saw this coming where the hot topic of the day is our managers travel and sleeping arrangements...

If the Crown Hotel give the club good rates then it seems a good idea, why not?
