I am looking at buying a new set of nets for the season as the ones we have are 2 years old so they are in need of replacing, and i would like to ask you folks what we should replace them with. it may seem trivial but your input will be appreciated.
- White
- Red & White Stripes
- Red & White Squares
- Black
- Jumpers for Goalposts - Pub Team Style
- Any other suggestions?
I will leave it upto you until Friday Morning.
the reason i listed black is because they are easy to see through, so if you are sat directly behind the goals you can see through the nets to not spoil your view.
-
Gotta be red and white stripes right?
-
Is there a supplier you have to get them from, Andy. Might be worth having a look at some off them on their website.
-
These look good. Diagonal stripes.

Agreed - they look good

for the quality and big discount we get then yes they come from 1 or 2 suppliers. as they supply the training ground, and all external pitches at cost price and they are based at Thorne.
-
I'd much prefer horizontal stripes to vertical stripes, the diagonal ones look good too though.
-
like the idea of black!
-
For me, it's not so much the colour of the nets but the style of the goals in general. It's becoming increasingly rare now to see different types of goals in grounds. Older readers will remember such delights as Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford's deep angular ones or Ayresome Park's different goals at each end. Or how about The Dell's really shallow ones? The list is endless. Most grounds now seem to favour the rather bland box affairs with two or three supports behind. The act of a ball hitting the net is one to be savoured.
Can we have these? :)

I vote stick with these ones too Andy

I liked the ones we had at BV in the late 70's and early 80's. "P" shaped goalposts with the base of the net extended further back. No other stanchions and plenty of slack in the netting to take the characteristic bulge-out and nestle from a Glyn Snodin screamer...
Colour? White for me will do, but ultimately as long as I can see the ball hitting it the colour is less important ;)
-
Im going for jumpers. Rovers jumpers though! Seriously though diagonal for me

Lovely stuff. :)

Has the new groundsman been hired yet Andy?
-
How about ones which attract our shots and deflect the oppositions?

Andy ... What happens to the Old Nets as Brodsworth Welfare AFC looking for a set if they going spare !!
-
Now the serious reply, I like the nets which have stripes of red and white, even better if you could get red and white hoops, but I doubt they allow those.
Good idea Roversbelly, let's prove we are a community club!!!!

Not sure how you get hoops on a net. But horizontal white and red stripes as opposed to verticle obviously has same effect.

An old set of nets were given to a local side only last Friday as they had theres stolen a few weeks back.
we generally use the old nets on the other pitches around the stadium.

The nets from that link are actually ones we had 3 years ago and the picture on that website is of the keepmoat.
i will source a local supplier of these tomorrow and see what they can do, and leave the thread running until Friday.
Thanks for the input its been great.
-
Actually Wild Rover, that's what I was trying to say.
That's good Andy, that's what we should be doing, proud of all of you.
-
Just Red like Liverpools
-
I really like the ones in the images posted, red and white, you can see clearly and it enforces the club colours better than black or just white.
-
For the look, Red and White horizontal stripes.
But if black improves the view for supporters behind the goal that would be my pick.
-
Great that Andy is actually consulting us about this.
I think we've seen all sorts of combinations over the years, particularly as the manufacturers have been able to jazz them up with club colours etc.
As a player (who needed as much help as poss to pick out the goals) and as I think they look more classic, I would favour plain white with plenty of 'give', so as said above, you get the net 'bulge' rather than the spring which sometimes makes it more difficult to tell whether a goal has been scored.
Failing that, then red & white will do nicely!
-
Wild thought. Why don't we just put them in the colours of whoever wants to sponsor them? Seems an obvious revenue raising opportunity not currently being exploited.
-
Yeah, and what about pitch sponsorship!
Any good at pitch painting Andy?
-
Red and White HORIZONTAL stripes would be my choice.
-
Askern Villa would be a good side to donate old nets to,having it hard at the minute and haven't been picked as a local side to play in pre season
-
Red and white horizontal for me if available. If not, then diagonal is OK. If a choice between white or black , I would go with black. :)
-
Red and white diagonal for me - looks more classy in my opinion. As to CBCB's sponsorship suggestion, perhaps there is a firm selling onions that might be interested? :) :coat:
-
Chainmail - we are Vikings after all...
-
How about have the logo imprinted on it like they do in Germany, see photo of Wolfsburg

My thoughts too. If they can do red & white stripes, surely red & white hoops are possible. Stripes = Blunts! Gotta be hoops.
-
Andy, if you manage to get a set with the grumpy fella who serves as the fanzine logo printed on them I'll do your 2013-14 fanzine subscription for free.
Ball is in your court.

Could we get them in a barn door design for Billy Paynter?
-
Once you decide on the nets Andy, any chance of another update piccy of the pitch?
Cheers
-
Thanks for the input guys...i have spoken with my supplier in Thorne and ordered the Red and white diagonal nets.
-
Would said supplier have the initials JR by any chance Andy?
-

True they're too Div 1 , remind me of a local team up the road .

Never heard of him ;)

Would i be correct in thinking that some football nets as in the netting are Made in a prison up sunderland way?
Or was it only sunderlands netting that was just Made in the prison up sunderland ?

Sunderland had their net supports made by a prison and the run backs on the goals made by them also.

HMP Acklington in Northumberland used to make up football nets in one of their workshops for Sunderland and a few other clubs.
