Title: The pitch.
Post by: Colin C No.3 on June 13, 2013, 11:43:34 am
How are thing's shaping up Andy?

Has the deep vacuum done the job, how much of the pitch is now 'real grass' & how long will it remain looking & playing like 'real grass'?

That beach of a pitch at the back end of last season....ouch!

Colin, look on unofficial site. There's an article on there about the pitch today.
Apparently it will be 'as good as any pitch in the country' next season

That's always the first place I look for Rovers news.

Me as well Monk (unless you're being sarcastic! :-)) I certainly find it a much easier site than the official one, and the guy who runs it is not afraid to be controversial at times.

And heres a pitch we will be gracing next year.totally reseeded, it looks like tartan.

Interestingly, BCFC employ Kestrels twice a week to scare off other birds.

Well judging by St Andrews, our pitch is more advanced in growth than that and that's without the help of Kes.

I see the Dons have a home game on 7 July against Leigh. Will the pitch be ready for it?

The Dons will have a home game before that. They play Sheffield in the semi-final of the Northern Rail Cup on either Thu June 27 or Sun June 30th depending whether its televised or not.

We could do with a bit more sunshine to help with the growth.

It might be unpopular with traditionalists, but the new generation of artificial pitches is going to be the way forward, particularly for clubs with multiple stadium uses.

The football authorities in Scotland and NI have accepted their use, just England behind the trend. Some lower league sides like Maidstone have installed them, but cannot hold FA Cup games beyond the preliminary stages on them.

Two more going in up in Scotland. Queen of the South show the installation on their site;

Falkirk are also going to put one in, and this is a new build ground from 2004 with undersoil heating!

Got to be the way forward for smaller clubs to make full use of their facilities.

Having been at the stadium today I can tell you the pitch is in great shape, possibly one of the best conditions I've seen it. I would have taken a quick snap to show you all but my phone had died.

I had a look through the gates as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they could have a game on now.

Went to ground today and got a chance to have a close look at the pitch. It looks great but on close inspection theres a lot of sand between strands.
