...interesting!
-
James Chambers is playing for Walsall and i'm sure i read that Stuart Elliot is a pastor in Hull
-
Tomi Ameobi is playing in Finland
-
Think McDaid is an agent or something like that now
-
He is, Coppinger's agent isn't he?
-
Yeh he's Copps's agent for sure.
What ever happened to Steve Brooker? Did he retire?
I'm sure Robbie Clark went to play in Scandinavia?
Isn't Jason Price a plumber now?
Anyone know how josh Payne is getting on?
John Spicer never really cut it did he.
-
George Friend is a regular for Middlesbrough, always liked him.
-
Josh Payne was locked up, but signed for Woking in the summer.
Brooker is at Buxton.
Oster is at Gateshead

Reckon he could still smack me in the face behind the South Stand from there
if you don't understand don't worry
-
Jos van Nieuwstadt plays for FC Linden in the Dutch Topklasse (3rd division - Sheff Utd level)
Stuart Elliot is back in Northern Ireland and runs One Goal Ministries - his latest sermon can be found here:
http://one-goal.info/
-
Ben Smith is at Southport
-
Robbie Clark spent last season with SkellefteƄ FF in the Swedish 2nd division where he was club captain. He appears to have moved on from them though.
EDIT- now playing for another Swedish side, Pitea IF. See photo.
http://www.piteaif.se/
Isn't John Spicer now working with our academy? I think I saw something to that effect in the programme the other week.
-
Ben Smith is at Southport
I think he's left them now, but I'm not sure where he is.
-
Quinton Fortune is doing his coaching badges and works for Man United as an ambassador.

Martin Woods is having a trial with St Johnstone. JJ Price has joined Selby Town.
-
Darren Byfield is playing for Tamworth. He's also divorced from Jamelia.
Jamelia is the most famous person I've sat behind at a Rovers match, unless the fella who used to sit in front of me in the West Stand invented the concept of irony or something and I never knew.
I miss Jamelia.
Not so fussed about Byfield

I remember Birmingham away, I had tickets in the players' comps section - about 2 seats down on my left was Jamelia, and right next to me on my right Matt Mills' girlfriend from Hollyoaks. I have never been less interested in football.
-
I miss Emma Rigby. She giggled and gave me a cheeky smile when I shouted "Bring on the wall" at an away game once.
I nipped round to the snack bar and turned round to see her leaning against the bog door suggestively stretching a strand of chewing gum out of her mouth and sucking it back in. I dropped my pie and got all tomato sauce down my trousers. She said "come here you dirty boy and I'll rub that sauce off for you" then winked and beckoned me in to the toilet block. We entered the lavs and she pulled me straight into an empty trap, bolting the door behind her and gripping my spadge in her delicate right hand whilst slipping her left arm around my neck and kissing me passionately. We missed most of the second half as I rattled her like the Brentford crossbar and she told me that I put Matt Mills to shame in the bedroom athletics department.
Actually that second paragraph might have been a dream when I think about it but the first line is definitely true.
-
Jason Price signed for Selby Town last week.

Edit : Sorry RB, didn't notice you'd already put this.
-
Josh Payne is now at Woking.
Ben Smith plays for Southport.
Both according to Wiki
-
As I said earlier, I think Ben Smith has left Southport but I don't know where he is now.
Didn't we ship Josh Payne out after he broke someone's leg (or tried to) in training? He looked promising in pre-season and in the only first-team game he played but within a few weeks we'd loaned him to Oxford and he never came back.
-
Payne was another of SOD's bizarre signings which never really played. Ryan Burge the lad we got from Glenn Hoddle, Tomi Ameobi obviously, Dennis Souza to name but a few. No wonder we never had any brass if it was being thrown at these folk.

I think it was a bit of a vicious circle. We didn't have enough money to sign quality so we signed on the cheap and got what we paid for. Of course, if we'd been better at keeping the first-teamers fit, we wouldn't have had to sign so many low-grade squad players and might have been able to bring in fewer and of better quality.
I have to say that since we got rid of Dr Death we've had a lot fewer injuries (he says, touching wood!)
-
JJ was loved at Prestatyn Town, just look at the banner.

Oster is at Gateshead
Wiki claims Brooker plays for Buxton but no mention of him on their website?
-

Woods on trial at St. Johnstone?!! He's better than that surely!!

He was at Buxton last season but I'm not sure he played much for them. He's probably left now.

Take about falling from grace!
-
Adam Lockwood has just signed for Guiseley AFC...thats a bit of a falling from grace too!
-

I think injuries have caught up with him, which is why he left Bury. Guiseley are in the Skrill North, which is about the highest level for part-time players now (a lot of the Skrill Premier/ Conference sides are full-time now).
-
I also miss Emma Rigby, used to sit next to her at some home games. WOW

I often wonder if she is still with Matt Mills...
-
Simon Gillette is contracted to Forest but has just signed on loan for Bristol City.
-
Gillett*
As if! He was forest's best player last season!
-
Heff was live on BBC Scotland last night in the Hibs vs Hearts Derby
Dean Shields is at Rangers
-
Dean Shields is at Rangers
Must get confusing for the fans with Dean Shiels there too.

Don't forget they've got Dene Shiels too...it must get very confusing in the dressing room..!
-
Anyone remember Dene Shields? I think he made maybe a couple of appearances on loan for us (from Sunderland?)
Just looked him up and he's playing for Xewigka Tigers, in the Gozo Football League.
Dumps all over the Skrill North really.
-
Simon Gillette is contracted to Forest but has just signed on loan for Bristol City.
He didn't look sharp enough at Forest I take it? Let's hope he glides into Bristol & it runs smoothly for him. That'd have them bristling in Nottingham. Have to say I'm glad we didn't offer him a contract. It looked a close shave at one point, that would've put me in a real lather.
-
George Friend is a regular for Middlesbrough, always liked him.
Not even on the bench against the Rovers.
-
I thought he was?
-
His name was on the big screen amongst the replacements available.

No, that one (Dene) IS 'Shields'! It's Dene Shields and Dean Shiels.
-
Gees reading all this is slightly depressing - apart from Mike-F's Emma Rigby dream. No wonder we nearly went down in 2011 and the Board threw in their lot with McKay the following season.
-
I also miss Emma Rigby, used to sit next to her at some home games. WOW

she isn't they split up soon after he left rovers.

Here's the squad we started 2010-11 with, and where they are now:

33 Gary Woods - 3rd Choice at Watford, Tier2
Defenders
2 James O'Connor - Loan at Bristol C - Tier 3
6 James Chambers - Walsall - Tier 3
24 Mustapha Dumbuya - Reserve at Notts C - Tier 3
11 Adam Lockwood - Guiseley - Tier 6
4 Shelton Martis - No club
23 Byron Webster - Yeovil - Tier 2
21 Sam Hird - Chesterfield - Tier 4
5 Wayne Thomas - Tamworth - Tier 5
3 George Friend - In and out at Middlesborough - Tier 2
Midfielders
15 Mark Wilson - Retired
22 Dean Shiels - Rangers - Scottosh Tier 3
26 James Coppinger - Donny - Tier 2
8 Brian Stock - Reserve at Burnley - Tier 2
7 Martin Woods - No club
18 Simon Gillett - Loan at Bristol City - Tier 3

10 Billy Sharp - On loan at Reading - Tier 2
12 James Hayter - Yeovil - Tier 2

All of which begs two questions. How in the name of holy hell did we manage with that squad to a) get within farting distance of the top 4 half way through the season, and b)effectively bankrupt ourselves because of the wages?

Answer to BST question 1. Top manager
Answer to BST question 2 . Awful decisions from the Board
-
Bradley grayson back in england with matlock along with oscar radford
-
Easy to say that player X is now in Tier 4/5 so must be rubbish, but that's a bit misleading - take John Oster for example. At times he was superb for us, and very much a Championship footballer. Just because he's not playing there now doesn't make it any less true.
-
Nick
If it was just one or two players who had dropped down the leagues at the end of their career, I'd agree. It's the fact that the vast majority have dropped down the leagues that is the point. It shows how little solidity there was to the team we built. The fact that only two players have become established for any length of time at clubs that have been higher that us for the last 2-3 years (Sharp and Friend) shows how fragile our squad was.
It's both a testament to the quality O'Driscoll had to get a squad as limited as that playing so well, but also an indictment of how little we developed players.
-
Billy
Fair point in some respects, but I'd say that midfield and up front are reasonably well represented in or around this league. It's where the defenders are playing now that really highlights how we were punching above our weight, and why it was little surprise that without quality reinforcements (Naylor etc) we struggled as much as we did.
In fact of the 2 who are still playing at this level, I'd say that only Friend has proven himself capable and Webster is simply lucky to have made it by virtue of playing for a team who themselves punched above their weight in gaining promotion last year. Hopefully he makes the grade himself (I rated him as a youngster but thought he'd never come back from the assault at Bramall Lane) or even pushes on further.
-
Points of information: Waide Fairhurst is currently playing for Lincoln City (Tier 5)- the lad at Rainworth MW is Jordan Ball. David Healy is a free agent having been released by Bury last season.
Dennis Souza is a free agent having spent the last two seasons at OFI Crete of the Greek super league.
