:( How the hell does everyone else cope with long stays in them ?
I just seem incapable of concentrating on one thing at a time constantly darting from the newspaper to a magazine, t'internet, glass of water, wondering about this good looking nurse or that one.
It's driving me up the bloody wall, only 3rd day and still weeks to go!!
Is this normal behaviour.......I just can't settle :(l
Then of course there are the daft questions from all and sundry asking me if I've had a good day, what did I eat etc etc. Like it's some bloody holiday camp I'm in !!!
-
What's up Hoola?
By the way. I've just been on the UKNurse.com forum. Some young nurse at DRI. Pretty thing going by her avatar. Complaining about some middle aged letch in a Donny shirt who keeps leering at her.
-
Do you get free wifi in hospital?
-
Ahhh....yeah. Bloody MY taxes going to let that Liberal-voting get come on here and tell us about fit nurses.
-
Lol bst got cancer in my lower spine and having op on Monday to remove tumour as only treatment available.
Trust me to get a cancer that only c.40 people get a year in the UK. That and being a Rovers supporter seems to be my lot in life;)
Stuck in bloody Birmingham for 4-6 weeks at least. Anyway I always fancied one of those nice shiny motability cars :) that they get for nowt.

Might as well make her the last one I can splash it all over then. I might as well finish off in style.

Thanks BB funny you should mention the push. I dreamt last night we finished 6th on goal difference then woke up a few minutes ago. God knows whether TLOD went onto win the next game ? Rtid

Never suspected it could be that bad or that rare 1/1,000,000 fecking ask you as you said it had to happen to a Rovers supporter.
We Always do things the hard way.......I will be back though sometime believe me :( rtid

Like I said to you last night Steve, you are a Rover, beating long odds is Rovers forte.
As always huge hugs coming your way.xxxxx

I bet visiting is a pain in the arse for your lass, all the way to Birmingham
Too right and she works full time :( she's just left with are young'un for the 2hr.+ drive home. I won't be able to see her again until next bloody Wednesday :( It's at times like this that you truly realise just how precious time should be with those you love.
My heart is ripped out every time she is told by me to go home. I worry about the trip home for her and her health ; she is losing weight as fast as me.
-
No Steve, you are right, it makes truly horrible reading, but every day there are massive advances, what is fact last week can be slightly different this.
You bet you are going to beat it, you have so much to fight for. :) xx

Thanks Deb but unfortunately I can't afford the bionic man advances yet even if they were available. when those nerves are severed that's it.....game over.
I have to readjust and realise there are many many folk out there worse than me don't I ?
I fear for Sue, I have all the help I need here but there is so little for her at the moment just 5 hr. round trips, a new job, a 15 year old in her GCSE year and up to 3 months looking after me. She is becoming emaciated before my eyes, I held her this afternoon and there was nowt there :( l see the fear in her eyes and in her trembling body it racks me with pain.
She knows , like I do, that there are years of this ahead. I'm now effectively "owned" by this hospital in Birmingham for life. Every 3 months, I will have to be checked out here and we will both be wondering if this/that visit means it all starts again.
So many adjustments to the way we think and behave in each interim period will have to be made just to make life anywhere near worth living.
I'm just not sure either of us can make those adjustments but we will have to conquer these fears so that our daughter can develop into adulthood happily.
I just don't know but know that we must somehow.
Incidentally I apologise to the board as these posts should have been in pm form . Perhaps Filo or Rob could arrange that for me.
-
Hoola, I'm not sure we can convert them to pm, but as they say it's good to talk, and if you feel the need to bend some ones ear then I'm sure there's plenty on here willing to be that ear, myself included, if you need moral support we're here for you mate.
-
Ay up Hoola.
Are you in the Royal Orthopaedic? It won't be the first time the red and white hoops have graced that place! I've spent months in there over the years since the first time I went there in 1996. I had Osteosarcoma and although the cancer is long gone I still have to go back now and again for check ups and occasionally maintenance operations on my leg due to plastic parts in my knee joint that wear out. You may remember me being off work for much of 2009 due to an infection in my leg... Not fun times. I am treated in ward 12 by Mr Jeys / Mr Carter and occasionally Mr Abudu.
I hope you aren't vegetarian if you are in that hospital. Food has always been truly awful and if vegetarian then the already terrible choices get cut down to one usually. I survive on sandwiches brought in for me. There's a good Chinese locally that'll deliver to the hospital though!
Anyway, wherever you are my thoughts are with you and the Mrs, my friend. Keep positive and do what they tell you to. You can PM me if you like. :)

Funnily enough I do remember it well and well pleased you are sorted out.:)
Yes I am under Mr carter and Keys, I'm told they are the best in the business.
Jeez it's a great hospital but so faraway from home:(
As for the food it is average at best, fortunately I don't mind it and am now eating things I would never have dreamed of eating before I.e. hard broad beans ...owt to get some weight on me. I will be wearing the hoops on satdi come what may after my op. On Monday is over for the Reading game.
I will pm you later if you don't mind about certain things but shattered now. Thanks for the post fella

Hoola.
Ditto mate. You put anything you want on here and apologise for nothing. Owt that any of us can do to help keep your spirits up is the least you deserve.
Good luck mate. And if you and Sue want a role model, think about Browny getting another elbow in the back of the head, picking himself up and chucking himself into another challenge.
It's going to be bloody tough for you, but humans are astonishing resilient creatures when they put their mind to it. You'll pull through, and you'll be ten times the man that any of us d**kheads will ever be.

Mr Carter did my original prosthesis operation back in 1997 and both he and Mr Jeys have been involved in operations in recent years, Mr Jeys especially so. Both are great surgeons with bags of very specialist experience, and I doubt you'll find a nicer consultant than Mr Jeys - really friendly and very down to earth. They probably are the best.
Like I said, PM me any time. :)
-
Hi Hoola, I'm sorry to read about what's going on with you. That really sucks to say the least, and must be very hard as well that your family aren't close by. But it also sounds like you're in very good hands where you are. Lovely also that so many on here are reaching out to you. So I'm also beaming you my very best wishes from across the pond!
All the best,
Sandy

It is Mr.Jeys that I'm under and he does seem to know what he's talking about. As for Mr.Carter well I've just noticed his name is on the end of my bed too.
The trouble with this bloody condition is that no-one has ever had sufficient data/folk/funding to get to the bottom of this cancer.
It's ( the cancer) main defence is that there is feck'all funding because there are so few that get it. :( There are no cancer drugs or treatments that effect it whatsoever on the market and surgery with sacrifice on a continual basis is as likely as not having problems with it again.
Perhaps and I hope that this thread will make some folk start to question whether their health is OK on a regular basis. There just may be someone on this forum "dithering" about whether or not to check out a potentially serious problem ffs get it sorted have the balls or even check your balls and sort it .

Thanks Sandy for your kind message of support. Believe me I do get strength from the thoughtful posts you and others have written sincerely on here.
If we can just save one person's life by airing this issue and using the word CANCER instead of running and hiding from it ......then this thread will have served it's purpose as well as being cathartic for me. :)
-
Never met you hoola and not a regular poster on here, but all Rovers fans have a connection.
So am sending my best wishes and thoughts to you to get you through this tough period.
-
Hoola
Puts things into perspective mate
Keep smiling fella our thoughts are with you
Hope the lads can do the business on the field to lift your spirits
-
You know what Hoola I had similar worrys when I went in for spinal surgery and the plastic bits to be put into my back, I promise you they are pretty careful with the nerve bits good job really :) Look at me now not exactly running around but up and mobile.
anyway the contracts up on the car in about 16/17 months and I need you to flog me another one so no pressure
-
Sorry to hear of your illness and confinement hoola - but as others have said they can do so much to treat cancer these days - and you certainly seem to be in a good hospital for it - with plenty of Rovers connections to go with it.
Its good that you have connections and access to get on here, post as often as you can with updates, general b*****lxs and stuff, we are all going to be thinking of you.
-
Likewise Hoola, I've posted on this forum a long time. I've never knowingly met the majority of people I joust with but I've come to almost know a lot of you just by user name. I kinda look at it that you're just friends I haven't had the pleasure to have met yet. It must be really difficult with your loved ones so far away but hopefully you'll find strength for each other to fight this problem and get through it. All the very best in the battle ahead mate and remember we're all rooting for you on here...
-
We're ALL Rovers aren't we! All the very best wishes to you Hools and try to keep strong and positive.
-
Thank you everyone for the massive support and encouragement you are giving me.
Oftentimes the best impartial support comes from those that know how you tick not how you look etc. Many words are written on here over the years that give you a massive insight into the way people 'really' are unseen, unwashed, with a common purpose but able to express thoughts that perhaps they would find impossible to do on a face to face basis.
Think of me fighting the once mighty Leeds at Wembley as our team did and overcoming the odds. Some of those odds I will find medically impossible to beat but the rest is upto me and those that support me be it here, with my family or with friends.
Thank you I will keep you updated After I come round from tomorrow's operation. :) RTID
Any chance you can wear your new away colours for the op. Do you think ;)
-
Hi Hoola
Sorry to hear about your travails but you will get through this. The most positive thing is it makes you concentrates on things that are the most important in your life but have previously taken for granted.
If ever you need owt I am not too far based in Coventry. As a fellow Thorney good luck
-
Hi Hoola mate,
Sorry to hear about this shit hand you've been dealt. My thoughts are with you and yours. Keep strong.
-
Echo the sentiments above. All the best Hoola.
-
Echo the sentiments above. All the best Hoola.
Thanks everyone, now ensconced in a very "hospice type" room but the away colours are already draped over the telly just to let them now the Rover is in town . Rtid
-
Are you in ward 12 Hoola? I've done quite a few of the side rooms in there and even watched rain water pissing in under the door to the balcony in one of them.
Say hello to Mr Jeys for me. I'm sure he'll remember me if you mention broken prosthesis, endless revisions and he's seen those red and white hoops!
All the very best for tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you mate. As I've said, you couldn't be in better hands. :)
-
Just read this thread - and Hoola - all the very very best from me mate.
My wife had the big C 4 years ago - I still can't believe how positive she was about it, especially considering her sister had died from the same cancer the year before. We are hoping she is clear now - but I know a little of how devastating it can be for everyone. Keep fighting and a positive attitude really does seem to help, even in the worst of situations. Will be thinking and praying a lot.
Cheers
Brian
-
Good luck Steve
Hope all goes well in the short, near and medium future AND Long term hurry up back as I need a Hybrid flogging to me again by a tall dark handsome Toyota Salesman ....
.... and as there aint one at Burrows you will have to do !
All the best mate ...Wolfie
-
Really sorry to hear of your problems Hoola. My thoughts are with you and your family and hope everything goes as well as possible tomorrow.
-
Hi Hoola I have just picked up on this thread mate and I wish you all the best,I also think you have done the right thing by coming on here as I know what it is like to be cooped up on your own fighting a critical illness,it's a pity that stuff like this wasn't around 20 years ago when I had my epiphany!,at the end of the day mate you can come on here nearly 24 /7 and sound off as there is usually some well meaning goon posting cr@p about Rovers, who will only be too glad to fall out with you and raise your mood!
-

I know they are careful daggers but they've already told me that 2/3 nerves have to be severed to dig it out . I will lose bowel, bladder and sexual functions whatever possibly further problems with the sciatic nerve down my right leg.
There is a 40% chance of it coming back at any time. It could be worse they could tattoo me with 2 crossed swords and the word "Blade" written underneath.
They have promised to spare me that ignominy lol.
-
So theyve promised not to tattoo " cross swords and Blades"
They didnt say owt about a big blue owl then
Seriously mate hope all goes as well as possible and thinking of you and yours
-
Only just found this thread.

If they even mentioned the 'big blue owl' tattoo I would be running out of here. Hmmmm perhaps that's a codicil I need adding to the operation consent form.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention
and thank you ALL for your support and humour :)
-
Hoola hope everything has gone well fella
-
hoola, hope things went well for you,and wish you a speedy recovery.

as you are one of the better posters on here.
-
All the best Steve, just picked this up after coming back from holiday.
I hope that today went as well as it possibly could, Dave
-
I don't know about you all but I've not been able to settle all day for thinking about Steve.. I don't think I'll be as pleased to see any green light as I will when he is able to come back on line... If you see what I mean.
-
Aye, been thinking about the big man all day. Just a weak and sickly "thumbs up" would do right now.
Things like this make you realise how fragile and precious and so totally special each one of us is. The Rovers family. I love you all.
-
Only just read this thread. I don't know know you personally Hoola but feel as tho I do after years of reading your views on all things Rovers.
I'm so sorry to read of your plight and hope your op has gone ok. Keep fighting. There are a lot of strangers on here who are willing you to get home back to your family and back to Rovers.
All the best.
-
Hoping you've come through your operation, and today is the start of your recovery and Good Health,Good luck everybody's willing you on  :scarf:
-
Right I'm back but typing with one hand .
Thank you all for your love and support it's humbling.
Got a damn epidural in for 5 days so somewhat hamstrung but it and the morphine helps kill the pain. Shattered but back zzzz

Welcome back mate.
You've been out for 27 years. You want is to start filling you in on the results?

Welcome back mate.
You've been out for 27 years. You want is to start filling you in on the results?
Lol few questions:-
1) did the Weeds ever become European champions ?
2) are any of the Deedar clubs 'massive ' yet ?
3) what happened to the rovers in that time?
4) knackered can't think wittily today somehow...
-
Welcome back mate, great to hear from you.
Did you have any dreams while you were away?
Were they dead vivid?
-
1). No Platini brought in a rule that no club could play in Europe if they had more than 50% of their fans were Kitsons.
2) Aye. When you can get to a mirror, have a look at your arse. We've tattooed every one of their Sheffield Senior Cup wins on your left buttock.
3) We got O'Driscoll back. We're currently on the longest run of possession without a shot in history. 178 games and counting.
4) in other news. Chairman Mirriband has been Honolable Reader of Blitish Porritburo for 25 years. Tight election in 2015. He won by one postal vote (don't look for your old postal vote form. I used it on your behalf). He bankrupted the country and we were bailed out by China but only on condition that we all wear matching grey suits and plaster our hair down with hair wax. Donny currently looks like an outtake of Mad Men.
-
Welcome back Steve have you examined everywhere for that tattoo of the big blue owl or did you manage get it added onto the consent form.
-
Likewise, good to hear from my old sparring partner

Hoola- I've only just caught up with this thread and am very sorry to hear about what's happened to you. I'm very pleased to hear you're back with us again and I hope you continue to make good progress. It certainly puts my recent health issues into perspective!
I see you're in the Royal Orthopaedic in Brum. I also live in the Birmingham area so if you need anything please let me know (via PM if you like) and I will endeavour to get it over to you. It's good that you have contact with the outside world as this summer I was stuck in Solihull Hospital for over a fortnight with only my mobile phone and a radio to keep in touch with what was going on.
All the best!
-
He bankrupted the country and we were bailed out by China
Many a true word, Billy... ;)

You forgot to mention Steve Brooker is still injured, Gary Woods is England goalkeeping coach, we've just lost a world cup qualifier 18-0 to San Marino and Denis Souza is Brazil defensive coach

Don't be afraid to accept.

That's a lovely gesture mate and as I'm going to be here for a while I might just ask if she needs help......she is stressed and gets shattered. Thank you so much, however as I'm going to be out of action for 3/4 months afterwards I might need some company then too. Jeez I wish someone could help me to wash my hair right now....it was last done Monday am :)

Shave it off pal. You know it makes sense. Stylish elegance meets practical utility (you can wash your head wi carbolic soap).
..says the voice of experience.
;)
Dont do it Hoola! BST is only after your offcuts to stick on his shiny pate!!!
-
You've got a bit of an obsession about my pate Roberto. What's up cocker, thinning a bit? Receding a bit? Graham Gooch lotion not working is it?
Come on over to the cool, stylish side bruv.
-
I shaved my head once because I was fed up of having grey hair. I grew it back after discovering I'd got a grey head.

Sorry pal, I shaved my heed once when I was a skinhead in the 80s and discovered I have a head like a turnip. The hair stays (for now)

Right just been for further op tonight because the wound in my spine wasn't draining off properly and that's after 3 days spent in HDU with e-coli in my bloodstream ! I thought I was going to die ( and nearly did :()
Woken up to find we've shipped 4 goals again, I need to get out of this place pronto and have a word with our "supposed" defence.
That's 8 goals in the last 2 games- come on lads you need to take a long hard look at yourselves :(:(
-
I'm glad you only heard about it, mate. If you'd seen it you probably would have had a relapse!
Take care and hope you feel better soon.

Cheers Rb it's tough in here but I wouldn't want to be any of those players today PD sounded mightily pissed off in the post match interview. Every time I'm Ill and miss a game we ship 4 goals. Our once "solid" defence has decided not to bother with the basics anymore.
When I get out of here, I need to find my boots a d get on the pitch mesen.
Forget the deal I had signed up for with the Blunts; it now appears that arr lot have decided to forget the basics and that's not acceptable!
I have got to learn to walk then run pronto :)

Good to see you back mate. Mind, E. coli in the bloodstream? Big deal. You should try having this cold that I've got. THAT's being ill.
For some reason, your struugle with that infection made me think about Trainspotting, where Renton is going cold turkey off heroin, writhing about in his bed, and hallucinates that Begbie turns up at the side of him, saying, "You get that shite oot yer body. Cos see if it's still there when I get back? I'll f**king kick it oot o yer."
There you go pal. Maybe you need the most psychopathic one of us to ....ahhh... encourage you to get better.
Anyroad, last night were gash. Move on.
-
Yes I think the one consoling and only positive thought from last night was, we still have Hoola to come back, if only Hoola had been there (on t'mucky pint) then things would have been different. Still s**te like - but different.
Keep fighting.
-
Good to hear you are getting out of the"Woods" Hoola we need you fit to kick some life into the other site! :boxing:
-
Hoopla glad to hear you are getting there, keep fighting and smiling

Don't worry sproty after I've caught up on my PM's from quite a few on here I'll pop over.
BTW just heard that I haven't got rid of the e-coli yet but are giving me all encompassing antibiotics until they isolate which strain it is and what particular targeted antibiotic will kill off the fecker. I wondered why my temperature kept fluctuating from hot to cold in an instant ! :((( Hope they sort it out faster than Dickov does our defense lol

You get well soon dog.
Dog fecking dog.....cussie you crease me up fella :)

Pmsl at you with your 'man' flu and the trainspotting analogy. Billy for a leftie you're decent Denaby lad at heart. Hard but decent and you have my fullest respect until we can sabre rattle over political persuasions when I'm better. ;)

You get well soon dog.

You know me Hoola, I'm 'Street' fella. I talk 'Fly'.
You beat all this shite fella, and I'll treat you to a private viewing of my sparra. An honour that's only bestowed on the chicks. I know, I know mate, don't mention it. It will be an honour.
-
Haha Cussie, do you want Steve to never come out of hospital? He doesn't strike me as a sparra watcher somehow, how ever high an accolade it is that you have bestowed on him..
-
I'm not going to let him hold it JB, that would be too much for him.
1. He may be to weak anyway.
2. It would make him feel hugely inferior.
3. It would dampen his spirits.
I'm just going to let him look. I can show him a few moves and shit. Simulation only of course, unless you're heading up to my manor sweetpea?

Might take you up on that offer just to remind mesen just how proud of my slack Sparra used to be never mind what it used to be like with a full lob on. Jeez I will miss the pride I felt when the lasses used to be frightened of it.
So I will need a laugh when I get through this shite.Thinking about it many of those lasses that ran away probably found there way to your Sparra lol
-
You got shit on your tadger Cussie?
Where I come from, we keep secrets like that to oursens.
-
I thought they scribbled t'lass who done it's name and number in a toilet cubicle in Denaby BST?
-
DENABY!!! TOILET!!! I should Coco!
-
Sorry Sproty, you're right - more like a park bench.
-
Steve, perhaps you can brush up on your eminem rapping you once did on the way back from an away game. It was just brilliantly funny. Hope it keeps getting better soon matey.

Just spent 3rd. night in a row being awake early doors. Two days ago it was 3:00 am then 3:20 am and this morning 2:00 fecking am. This is after having sleeping tablets. Obviously I wake up freezing cold and in agony from leg cramps, wasted muscles and excruciating stabbing pains in my right leg particularly.
I've tried tele, scrambled music on my I- phone, requests for drugs to help but they can't seem to help.... I want to go home !!!!!
-
Chin up Hoola
Just sounds like my wee small hours after a night on the pop.

Hoola- although I haven't been through anything like you have in terms of surgery, I can empathise to a degree. This summer I spent a fortnight in hospital with a bad case of pneumonia. Once I got over the initial bit where I felt really ill, I found the inability to sleep a real problem and longed to get back into my own bed. However, when I got home the most I could manage was to sit in front of the TV all day and then struggle to sleep at night- this went on for at least a week after I came home.
I don't really know what to suggest. I read a lot but still felt frustrated that I had so little to do and so little to stretch my mind- so I found that at the end of the day I really didn't want to go to sleep. I think you just have to keep fighting on and realise that one day you will feel better and you will be able to go home.
Chin up- and I hope the Rovers can give you something to cheer on Saturday.
-
Pssst, Hoola. It aint Colditz, tha knows! The escape party can be ready at an hours notice. ;)

Plenty of sheets here to tie together but someone would have to carry me out of here. Btw fellas I insisted that they a) didn't wake me up last night at 3:00am this morning for my customary antibiotic Iv but 6:00am instead and b) doubled up on my anti spasmodic drugs last thing last night. I woke up at 5:45am fresh as a daisy and managed to walk (aided of course) to the toilet and wan my teeth .
All it took was for me to question why they they thought it was cute to wake me up and insist they don't in future. Hopefully job sorted now.
