Not a topic about Sir Franny
Anyone recall golden goal tickets
-
Vaguely remember buying them, like a raffle ticket but with perforated edges to tear open

We had them at Halifax RLFC for the first try, (same thing). The good thing was that you could sell them during the week if you were a lottery agent and therefore catch people who were not speccies.
The down side, compared to the present half-time draw was that they had to be bought from one company who charged a high price, which cut down on the profits.
The half time tickets are, as I understand, sponsored from the printing point of view and therefore, apart from paying the sellers on the day, there is little else taken out and so the club gets a bigger share.
Maybe another half-time option, which could also be sponsored is what they do over here, a Fifty/Fifty draw. One or two pounds a ticket with half going to the winner and the other half going to the club. That way you only draw one winner, and the bigger the crowd, the more people buy, therefore the bigger the prize.

The fifty/fifty draw could be a big part of half-time, with the number drawn on the pitch. With only one winner, and seeing it drawn would lead a cheque being presented in those fifteen minutes. It would save people asking on here for the winning numbers.

Great idea, it's something that the Dons do.

Don't we have/had 50/50 draw
We also had one where you won £50 but could double by scoring a penalty on pitch

I am proud to say i was aGolden Goal ticnet seller from1972 til around 1978.
Originally there were Golden Goal Girls, so deliciously sexist and seventies, but when it got a little colder and the icy winds of Belle Vue started billowing round their little red mini skirts, a few boys were recruited!!!
I used to sell them in the main stand, earning commission and getting to the game free, just like the programme sellers.
Now what if there wasnt a goal?? There was a special 0_0 ticket shuffled into the pack so it would definitely be sold

Just as well because Franny OFFICIALLY scored the PROMOTION Goal that took Rovers back into the Football League. It worked of course just like a G****n G**l but was renamed for that glorious game at Stoke
**** Sorry regulars I just could not resist. If I were a fish I would get caught every time
