Bloke called steve says JR confirmed something will happen soon.
First call tonight ...........
-
Good lad that Steve, even slipped in a dig at the blades.
No reason not to believe him about JR, not sure why anyone would make that up.

Interesting why JR would be in Donny to be fair given he live's in Berkshire and we are down south at the weekend!?!?
Sounded genuine enough although Dick and certainly Brammall aren't from Donny!

C'mon Norfolk get your facts straight!
JR lives in Cheshire, Dick lives in Tickhill and TB in Harrogate. Both TB and DW had their business interests in Doncaster employing local people.
-
Ive seen john Ryan twice at peters crispy cod in Hyde park so its easy to believe he was there
-
there have only been one million posts on here refering to TB and DW as Donny people so a bit early to expect all but the regular readers to have picked up on it yet.
-

Can't see him flitting from his mansion in Cheshire , there wouldn't be room in Berkshire for his trainset!

I thought it was common knowledge that JR loves his fish n chips from Hyde Park and often calls in on his visits to Donny.
Interesting that the caller, Steve, was just relaying the news from JR that 'something will be happening soon' but then went on to say that he would not welcome the Sequentia deal and wants us to remain in local businessmen's hands.
Whatever 'something' is, we have no idea but I guess we'll get to know in time. Meanwhile, we're back on the road on Saturday with 3 points up for grabs. All we can do is concentrate on the football.
Apparently, English fans rubbing Brazil nuts contributed to our qualification for the World Cup, so may be the best we can do is suck on a Butterscotch in the run up to the game on Saturday !! Any other suggestions??

Terry Bramall is from Donny, his father started Bramall construction in the 1930's and it was based in Wath. He used to live in the house with the tennis court as you go into sprotborough from cusworth when i was a kid and i went to school with his daughter.

I'm not sure if Bramall lived in the house Adrian Welch lives in now, he might have done. I thought he lived in the park at Sprotbrough. I think he started out in Cadeby. Anyway he is certainly a Donny bloke.

I simply can't believe what I'm reading...
... Someone should tell JR that the best Chippy in Donny is 'Harry's' in Dunsville by a mile!!
-
Drove through Edlo yesterday due to A1 problems and people were queuing out the door at a new chippy there - either good, cheap or a front for something else
-
Its pretty decent but the real draw is half price on a Thursday evening for the next few weeks
-
JR certainly likes his fish and chips. I recall chatting with him and Stuart Highfield outside a fish shop just by Leigh RMI's Hilton Park ground many moons ago. JR was having a particularly fine rant about an incompetent referee. Plus ca change...
-
Harry's in Dunsville is the place for fish and chips.
-
For many years the best fish and chips were at Newton's on Montrose Avenue in Intake.
-
The Potato fishcake at The Crispy Cod on Carr House RD is beaut.
-
Whats that chippy like Thats takef over the old fire station near racecourse?
Ad where is the new fire station?
-
Whitby's - not bad but not as good as Harry's in Dunsville.
New fire station is behind the old one/Whitby's

barnby dun chippys better stopped goin to harrys
-
Wasn't there a Newtons on the corner of one of the streets behind Duke street? I seem to remember that there was always a queue there about 10.30 as I was heading to North Bus Station for the last bus!
-
I think that it was behind Gregory's leather shop in Spring Gardens.
I always enjoyed their food.
Don't think that I ever went in after the early 70s though.
I used to regularly call in at Dorians I think that it was called next to the Saracens.
I remember us all going in there before catching the Yorkshire Traction bus down to the Torquay away game in 1966.
In those days Torquay, Swansea and Gillingham etc. coaches left Waterdale at 11:00 pm on the Friday night for the Saturday game.

Agree with that, but Harry's is top notch too.
-
Rothwell chippy in Town is well nice
-
I think the people who ran the Newton's were related. Johnny ran the Intake one, I don't think he owned both, maybe someone knows for sure ?
-
Kenny's on Doncaster road at Conisborough is the best in mo and they have a lovely resturaunt as well.
-
It won't half p*ss off some Free Press journo when he looks at this thread for news/ rumours on "investment" and finds that most of it is actually about which fish and chip shop is the best one in Donny!
-
Newton's in town was the best at the time. I thought it were rate posh when me mam used to take me for a sit down fish and chip supper. They even had proper knives and forks!!
Dorians was always good for last orders before you got on last bus. Bus used to smell of a mix of vinegar and fags. So romantic when you're getting down and dirty on the back seat after treating your bird to chips and spam fritters!!

As the song went
We all follow rovers on a yorkshire traction bus ....

Funny how Threads can move in different directions from the heading
But saying that This Thread seems to have stayed on Its tracks due to tje fish and chip shop debate.
What is the Worst fish and chip shop
I will hav to say joes at top shops cantley for sole reason he mainly
Cooks or frys to order as nowt is never in and ready
-
Is this all some cryptic clue to Harry Ramsden being the new invester ;)
-
Newtons was always a treat after an evening game.
Back in the day Rovers used to play a lot of Friday night games, rather than the Saturday. Bus back into town from OBV, then grub before going home. Even if the footy disappointed, the chips made up for it.
It was always part of the deal for me. I doubt the Rovers bug would have bitten so deep without the snap at the end!
-
Me and the lad had fish and chips and a chat with JR outside that great chip shop about 5 mins walk from Drill Field, Northwich many moons ago.
Think it was the night we won 3-1. Duerden hat trick iirc.
-
scorahs on St. John's road at Balby back in the 70/80's was the best ever chippy in Donny beef dripping used to fry up in was awesome!
-
We used to stop at chip shop opposite Bawtry Auctions back in 70's/80's, gone downhill since then.
Followed by a shandy for the lad at the Pilgrim Fathers at Scrooby.
I love the way this thread has gone btw

I was on the Tracky Bus to Torquay, Idler. Great weekend that. I remember all the Rovers fans getting off the bus when we got to Torquay seafront and everyone grabbing a 'peddle' boat without paying and peddling out to sea. A mass of floating red and white. I recall I got back home from the trip late Sunday afternoon !
-
I remember Torquay used to play at 19:30 on Saturday nights sometimes to help travelling supporters, though probably meant getting home just in time for Sunday dinner.
-

That was the best chippy for a hundred miles around that was Raven! No point going anywhere else.. Scraps by the bucket load too.

-
Baxters in Dunsville ..was especially good for scraps .
-
I always used to enjoy a Rothwells.
My favorite fish and chip shop is a close call between three, Winking Willies in Scarborough, The Daisy in Bramley (Leeds) or Seaway at Cleethorpes.
-
The best one used to be Newton's on the corner like mentioned,Rothwell's over the far side of the market, not the Market place one is a good one,the hot curry is really nice, for me the best one is the one in the market place just round the corner from Bon marche, reasonable prices, really good fish and chips, plus the curry is good,a lot cheaper than Rothwell's in the market place,if your further afield in the Askern area, try Sutton road fish shop near the school, cheap good quality food,if fish and chips are not your thing, the burgers they do are gorgeous and good value, the only draw back to they're fish is the batter isn't crispy, tune in next month for my article on Pizzerias ;)
-
That chippie up a side road on the left as you're coming to the big left hand bend as your nearly leaving Bawtry isn't at all bad.

I think that we took 3 or 4 buses that night and anther 2 or 3 came for the Saturday.
I know we got to Torquay 7:30- 8:00 and left at midnight. A full day plus we got a point in a 0-0 draw against a promotion rival.
-
Newyankee, if you're talking chippys in intake then the lonsdale, or lonny, wins hands down. Think it's gone downhill now though. Used to go in after a game at OBV. Then when I was older would get my post match refreshment at the other lonny.
-

I will second that and they were also open when the clubs and pubs turned out , not like these days when most shut at 8.00. I have called in there many a time from the Woodfield club when it was in its hey day.
-
Love the chippy at Auckley, and also Barnby Dun, decent one at Epworth too.
-
I was referring to Newton's in Intake many, many, many moons ago. I think that Johnny Newton sold up over forty years ago. I am not referring to nowadays as I havn't lived in Intake for the same period.
-
Well that's the answer. On that small plot of land between the KM and Lakeside pub, we need a bespoke chippy. It would do a bomb in that location. Any suggestions for appropriate names. Viking Fisheries?
-
JR's Plaice

-
There was one in Stainy years ago, Fowlers, Fish and Chips to die for
-
parkinsons chippy at woodlands, old bit used to fish out a chip bite it to see if it were cooked then chuck the remains back into the fryer......and his fish were full of bones!!!
-
Best in Yorkshire, Murgatroyds, Just out of Leeds Bradford airport.
-
Thompson s on a64 just after Monks cross York . Bang on
-
I have to say that in my part of the midlands we're quite well served for chippies. My regular haunt, the Dovehouse Fish Bar, does a super cod and chips. There's another one across the road from the Greville pub that does a very acceptable cod or haddock with very large portions of chips.
Best fish and chips I had when going to a match were from a splendid chippy just down the road from Darlington's old Feethams ground. I wonder if the chippy survived Darlington's move, because it certainly did brisk business on a matchday!
