Reading performance against the Rovers since 1950
Games won: 28
Games drawn: 10
Games lost: 5
Due a win then
-
7-5 would do ;)
-
How about us being 3-1 up with 20 minutes left :crying: :rtid:
-
Chris Brown hatrick.
3-3
-
February 1976 we won one nil (les chappell) at elm park
Bloody freezing!
-
I was at that game too Bedale. Nasty, grey day it was. And Les Chappell wasn't supposed to do that was he?!
Cheers

The one I remember going to most was the 4-1 win at Elm Park and Alan Brown (Chris' dad) scored a brilliant hat-trick. If I remember correctly we were 1-0 down at half time and the second 45 minutes was the best I have ever seen Rovers play. We absolutely ripped them apart and even got a standing ovation from their fans at the end.

Absolutely gutting that game,i thought even we can't mess this up,every time Shane Long played against us we made him look like Pele. :s

They took Shane Long off that game cos he was getting pelters from the home crowd. Quite deservedly cos he was pants. The only reason we lost that game was the ref. Second only to the incompetence of the ref we saw v Portsmouth.
That game I've never seen SO'D so incensed because the officials played a big part in Reading's 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals. Funnily enough the ref that day was from Hertfordshire bearing in mind were in Berkshire.
As you can tell, I've got over it now!
-
The throw in that wasn't that should have been with the lino looking the other way?
A free-kick awarded for nothing that Ian Harte rammed home?
If i've got the same game you're on about Baz, I can't remember the other goal what was contentious about that?
Did Matt Mills score the first for them too?
I seem to remember Jem Karacen having a good game - and chips on the way home from a chippy about half a mile from the ground that cost shed loads!
That said result aside (it was however a good game) The wife, kids and I, had a good day out that day!

We lost because like all SOD teams we caved in as soon as the pressure increased. He produced teams on a tight budget that often played truly beautiful football, but every single one of his teams were completely absent of a backbone. Weak. That Reading game was one of several I could remember where as soon as oppo got some steam up we were always going to lose even when we were 3-1 up.
-
I think that the 4th goal was offside, in fact weren't two of the players involved offside?

And they are so close together. Like someone saying to us, we won because the referee was from Lancashire.

I remember a game at Belle Vue in the early 80's. Pitch was frozen but we got the game on otherwise Ian Snodin would have been suspended the following week at Everton (must have been 84-85). Bloody freezing and we lost 4-0.
-
Remember the club appealing to fans to come and clear the snow from old BV for that one and we got repaid with a 0-4 :) My old man was so confident it would get called off he put himself up for the weekend work so we missed it in the end anyway!!
-
4th goal was offside. Both the winger and Simon Church we're off when ball played through.
-
There was also a dodgy free-kick (from which Harte scored) when the ball was fired at Brian Stock's arm from about six inches away. And another goal (the second, I think) came after the Reading player had clearly run the ball over the touchline.
The referee involved - a Mr Hegley- had to retire due to an injury he picked up shortly after that game. I did have a wry smile to myself when I read of his "unfortunate" retirement!

I was also there and agree with you. Alan Brown was immense that day and I thought Rovers would win the League (Division Three as it then was) if we carried on playing like that. The following week Brown ruptured his ACL and it more or less finished him. Such a tragedy as I believe he would have been a Rovers legend.

You're right John, Alan Brown was unplayable that day. Mind you, his son is trying his best to make himself a Rovers legend !

Looks like the bogey is still there , Rob Jones off possibly out for a while , down to 10 men and now 3-1 down , I'm definitely going to Boro now . With luck like this it usually ends with brilliant win .

We haven't beaten Reading at their gaff since '84, apparently :s
-
That recently!?

That's the 4-1 I was referring to earlier on in the thread :(
-
Have we got a worse record against anyone else - over to the stattos
-
Probably not. We haven't beaten them at home since the famous 7-5 game in 1982.
-
What about Yeovil?
-
Depends on how many games you want to do it over.
We have played a few clubs only a couple of times without a win.
Chelsea - played 2: lost 2
Wycombe - played 3: drawn 1 (lost on pens) lost 2
Crawley - played 2: drawn 1, lost 1
Our worst records are against (under 10 games)
Newcastle - Played 9: drawn 1, lost 8
Yeovil - Played 10: won 1, drawn 2, lost 7
Arsenal - Played 8: won 1, drawn 1, lost 6
Wolves - Played 8: won 1, drawn 1, lost 6
Spurs - Played 9: won 1, drawn 2, lost 6
Reading record is - Played 43: Won 5, drawn 9, lost 29
-
Thanks for that 1879 it's amazing the hoodoo some teams have over us
TBH didn't realise Yeovil had such a hold on us, can remember our only win clearly - night game with Ricky Ravenhill scoring- seemed to spend all week on M42 back then
