Anyone who listens to that interview and believes that John Ryan would ever do anything that wasn't in the best interests of Doncaster Rovers needs their head examining!!!!!!

Some very interesting stuff on here. Very interesting.

Sounds like offer of 8m cash upfront to buy out the shareholding of all three main shareholders and then "tens of millions" for the club.

"Some others" on Board happy to see Rovers in League One. JR thinks he had "one more promotion" left in him to Premier League but only possible with investment. He would bow out once in Premier League but be closely involved until then, with SC investment.

Thinks better chance of deal now that he is out of the picture. A deal could be done now. Will wait and see.

8m cash effectively to buy DRFC, and presumably the rights along with the lease to have first dibs on developing the land around the ground. 8m is pocket money to Terry Bramall I imagine.

Tens of millions is about as vague as it comes. No hard facts of figures here (again).

Sounds all too familiar.

So Sequentia are Irish again... Or Belize, whatever.

Having said all of that, I respect John Ryan for what he has done. It is a sad day, but the whole saga had been handled appallingly.

Talk about gilded dagger. Moment we acquired the lease on the stadium we became an attractive prospect for investment/exploitation (delete as appropriate).

You have to wonder whether the 100,000 or so we make from stadium each year is worth it for all the hassle this has caused us now.

Said dagger now being plunged in between our shoulder blades.

He sounds a bit bitter about Terry. "He's been making all the decisions he can take over".

So we have Watson in poor health and seemingly indifferent to all this, Ryan and Brammall in open warfare. Brammall probably happy to stem losses/commitment and go-between League One and Championship now and again and Ryan pushing to get to Premier League. Ryan unable to finance this or get others to finance this so brings SC to table. Brammall either wants to stay on at club for vanity reasons or doesn't like terms being offered to him personally by SC and has refused to agree, potentially because he doesn't trust Ryan to handle negotiations properly. Ryan resigns from active involvement.

Big question: who is going to fund our losses this season?

Presumably if Sequentia do eventually gain full control, one way or the other, there is nothing to stop them offering JR the chairmanship back as in their original plan?

I wonder if John isn't just tired of it, hence him saying this is the end now.

Ryan's value to them was that he was advocating for them in the Boardroom and with the fans. If they can reach agreement with Bramall and Watson then Ryan is of no interest to them.

The deal was JR would buy back in as a minority shareholder to remain chairman, once SC gained control.

As a fig leaf. As others have pointed out, unlikely SC would go to all of these and find themselves having to deal with a belligerent fellow shareholder.

Oh and other point Ryan made in the interview. He is definitely NOT happy with the deal to buy out the Dons.

No, not a fig leaf. SC claim they are impressed with what John has done with the Rovers, they said they want him as their chairman.

I've been vocal about the way this whole situation has been aired in public, as I do not agree with John Ryan on the matter of the SC deal. People have short memories and I do not want a repeat of 1998. I believe that JR pushing the SC deal is self-serving, that SC have exactly ZERO interest in anything to do with the footballing side of Doncaster Rovers Football Club.

I'm surprised that so many people would buy into the stories that have been placed in the media or the campaign waged by the Exiles site and by people who should know better. Selling your soul for a 15 minutes in the sun deal that's (a) not guaranteed, (b) has very little detail or substance to it, and (c) would see the club in the hands of unknown people who for all we know, may stick around for five years, then vanish once they've developed the land and presumably sold the properties to a leisure or hotel chain.

Then what?

I, like many of us I suspect, have a large degree of sadness around today's events. Personally, my feelings are going back and forth today between sorrow that it's the end of an era, and optimism that there may well now be a way forwards without selling to a foreign-based faceless hedge fund.

Remember, JR courted TB and DW to come on board, knowing what he was getting into, and the KM2 were happy to let JR keep living the life as our flashy front man. JR also courted Sequentia, funnily enough when it transpired that the stadium lease had far more potential development value. I wonder who leaked what, presumably, was a confidential covenant? So Sequentia come to the table at JR's bidding with a deal that the majority of the owners found unpalatable, as there were question marks surrounding the long term security of the club. So it's apparent that JR's been talking to parties outside of the club without his co-owners' knowledge. That alone would piss me off as a co-owner.

The deal on the table from SC was deemed to be not in the best long-term interest of the club. I accept that. Obviously John Ryan could not, and so we had the placing of stories in the DFP to try and garner public support for JR and drive a wedge between supporters and the KMS, particularly TB, presumably in an attempt to drive through a deal with SC. It didn't work. In the meantime, obviously some work has been going on regarding a Sporting Club Doncaster, and bringing the Dons into the fold, presumably to generate interest and revenue for the Stadium. It's not a bad idea to seek to build something organically from the ground up.

And now we have JR walking away because things are not going as he wants. If he has been excluded from discussions regarding the Dons and so on, perhaps going public and talking ill of his fellow owners and trying to manipulate public opinion to get what he wants was not exactly going to endear himself to the KM2. You reap what you sow.

And how do we know that discussions with SC have taken place without JR's involvement? No facts presented to substantiate that.

For me, if SC had sought to engage the fans and layout their plans with financial information and projections, that would have been one thing. But they have not. And that should be the end of it.

Thanks JR for what you have done. But you've blotted your copybook with this latest stunt. So it is the right time to go. Sad to say.

What do you mean by "self serving" and why would you think that JR would also want a repeat of 1998?

As said on the other thread, it seems clear now, although I could be completely wrong, the first and perhaps the second offer, were fine for JR but too risky for the others.

Concerns remain naturally, but I thought JR came over in that interview much better than he had done recently and TBH, it sounds like fair cut and thrust comments about TB acknowledging that perhaps he gambled and failed and now it's up to the others to take it on.

I honestly think that what JR supposes will happen. The Sequentia deal WILL go through with Bramall taking the praise and that the club will gat it's investment and go forward. I also think that Bramall and Watson will be happy to get their money out of the club and go back tpo obscurity.

Whether that then produces a way back in for JR is something to think about. He could become Managing Director instead of Chairman.  I would also like to know what part Gavin Baldwin has played in JR's  resignation, no one seems to have considered his involvement in all this, but don't tell me the Dons was not HIS idea.

It's a sad day for Doncaster Rovers, but could, and I say could advisedly, be the best thing to happen since 1998.

Derek - looking at the relative wealth of JR, DW and TB, I doubt that getting back $7m or however much each has put in, is really a life-changingly huge amount to TB or DW. If they wanted to get their money back so readily, they would have rubber-stamped the SC deal in some form, surely?

Possibly because TB and/or DW know something we don't with regards to potential development on surrounding lands and want a lot more than the 7mil you mention or they don't want to sell because they feel there is more money to be made? Let's not kid ourselves, TB is isn't a rovers fan or a football fan he is a businessman. He didn't invest all this money for the love of the club, the town or the fans. He has invested knowing/hoping that it would make a return. Like someone said, if the offer for his money back was what he wanted he would have signed the deal with SC but I personally don't think he solely didn't sign the deal because of the long term future of the club! I don't know the guy and could be totally wrong, just my opinion based on the fact that he isn't a fan

A technical point- does anyone know why I can't get these to launch? Is it my browser (I'm using IE). I'll try it on Chrome or Firefox later but I'm puzzled, because all the other audio (like the stuff on the BBC site) plays fine for me.

NY- I think you're onto something there. Having listened to the Sky Sports interview and the Deedar one (it does launch on Firefox!) two things stood out.

1. JR is fed up of taking the flak for decisions that are being made outside of his control.

2. He wants to up the ante for TB- hence his talk of "it's time for Terry to have a go" and his suggestion that some Board members are happy enough with League One football.

Basically TB can no longer remain in the background and will have to be a more public figure- that is, if he wants to retain a controlling interest in the football club. He'll also have to be seen to be willing to fund player acquisitions- or he will be blamed by the fans for relegation.

As I don't think he wants to do this, my guess is that the possibility of selling up will seem more attractive to TB this weekend than it has ever done before.

I still think JR's resignation was badly timed and he was lucky that Rovers scrapped their way to a 0-0 rather than got turned over yesterday- otherwise he laid himself open to accusations of disturbing the players. He could have called a press conference tomorrow and said what he said. However, I think he's achieved his immediate objectives. The coming weeks will prove whether he's achieved his long-term goals as well.

I doubt we've seen the last of John Ryan in a Rovers boardroom.

Well until Mr Brammell comes out and gives an interview, which will also give him a chance to deny anything he want wants too,I will believe everyword JR says.Thats a big part of the problem,TB seems to be like SOD was, does not want to waste their time with media at all. Many newspaper reports about SC and this week about JR thinking of resigning was DENIED by the club, only to come exactly true (And it cannot of been JR denying it),so it must be someone or the rest of the board,TB,DW or maybe G.Baldwin.As you say PDX "obviously Words are cheap. I've seen Brammell, Bramwell, Bramhall, Brammall and Brammal.

This only used to happen when we were away to Sheffield United.

From that article:

Quote
“ No-one goes into football to make money and there’s more business nonsense spoken than business sense. However, I do think it’s important that a town like Doncaster has a football team. The place gets a lot of bad press, most of it completely undeserved, the club, the racecourse helps to keep it on the map for the right reasons.

“If I can help in some way then
I will. Money can’t buy you happiness, that is true, but it
does give you the freedom and it’s what you do with that freedom that counts.”
