Title: If
Post by: selby on November 10, 2013, 02:14:29 pm
Just a thaught but if we were to get into the premiership just how many of our present fans do you think could afford to follow the team to watch live matches.
I think the support in the surrounding  ex mining villages from which we get a lot of present support may strugle with the extra expenses not that I think it is about to happen though.
The twenty is enough brigade would not get into many away games thats for sure but we would sell out every week but who do you think the new so called supporters would be?

A couple of my mates who support Arsenal/Man Utd/etc have already said if we ever got to the PL they'd buy season tickets. We would probably sell out most games in the Premier League.

Although I'd love to get to the premiership, the constant interference with kick off times by Sky would make it impossible to justify the cost of a season ticket

If ever we did get to the premiership it would mean we would have a full house every home game.
It would also mean that the following season when we got relegated to the championship we would keep some of those new fans and have bigger gates than before.
Barnsley and Blackpool are examples of this.

All presumption Wellred. We used to get good crowds in the Championship in the first season, but not any more. I also have no doubt that maximum crowds of 15, 000 cannot sustain a club in the Premiership.

Maybe if Mr Moneybags that is our apparent new saviour had thrown a little more pocket change at the club before FFP and we hadn't sold the likes of Wellens & Mills and we built a squad instead of dismantling it the crowds may have stayed.

There's a massive difference in wealth when you compare JR & DW to TB, that's why.

I think we need to get away from expecting people to stick multi millions into the club on an ongoing basis with little to no chance of getting it back. We can never expect to be able to keep such expenditure up with the money coming into the club from the fans. A few people at the club seem to have realised that of late.

A reality check is in order at this point I think. We simply cannot afford Premiership football, and in truth (with the crowds we're getting right now) can't really afford  Championship either. A sad truth,  but a truth nonetheless.

Skellow, you seem to be very much in the know, so exactly what was the agreement between the 3 major board members in respect of only putting in matched funding?

I've only ever heard it mentioned by a handful of people on here, it's never been confirmed by anybody at the club officially, quite a while ago i asked a board member saying this to prove this agreement exists and heard nothing so make of that what you will. Also a donation or 'gift' can be made to the club if someone really did want to put money in for the good of the club.

I remember reading on the OS that they would all put 1million in the first year, and equall amounts each year to cover the shortfall.
